SpaceX knows those little landing legs are the suck and probably won't care if it tips/falls over.

Well, guess that rules out reflying SN10

LOL. First starship to fly twice. Great landing the first time though!

it was a methane leak ignited by the post-landing fire i think

Per guys on NASASpaceflight stream, based on location and type of explosion it was not the flight termination system. It was on fire underneath from the time it landed and apparently the methane tank got unstable enough to explode.

Since it had already landed, no FAA investigation right??

Having seen a few of these tests now, it seems they have little leaks and fire getting around the engines frequently. It's still a great accomplishment, hardware testing is the best way to learn.

So much this. Landing gear was admittedly sketchy afterthought. Mars Baby!!

SpaceX knows how to give people what they want.

Launch? Check.
Floaty fall? Check.
Landing? Check.
Explosions? Check.

I wonder if they will get trouble from the FAA for the flight before the RUD.

Not that I actually care because global warming is stupid, but semi curious how much Methane/ CO2 emissions each one of these launches pushes out.

Surprised John Kerry hasn't flown his private jet down to measure it himself!

Ah SpeaceX said they meant to land on 1 engine. Excellent. What a huge step forward.

So yeah when it's fully combusting, you're just expelling Carbon Dioxide, which is way cleaner and less-harmful than Methane:

CH4[gas] + 2O2[gas] --> CO2[gas] + 2H2O[steam] + 891kJ

Obviously it's still not ideal but all combustion is going to expel something. I don't know exactly how clean it actually runs and I'm sure there's still methane in the exhaust, but it's not that bad if I understand correctly.

Now the RUD is a different story, but as you can see you still get a lot of combustion!

I think they mean after they turn it upright and decelerate, then they can land on one engine.

Either it is methane collected from the atmosphere and converted to CO2, methane being a more powerful greenhouse gas, or they produce the methane by extracting CO2 to create CH4 and H2O and then burn it back into CO2.

So relatively neutral to actual an improvement.

At least from what I understand.

Yeah, last week i thought they were saying they would light all 3 engines then shutdown the worst 1 and land on two.
