I think a lot of the complainers are missing that there are multiple versions of the car. The flying car was more or less a marketing stunt, albeit a badass one. It wouldn't shock me if they never sold one of those (it wouldn't shock me if they sold a couple hundred, either). The other two versions are what is going to be in production in two years, and they are still badass cars, even if they don't fly.

Definitely agree

I wonder if the COPV version will be street legal. When the COPV failed on the starship 36 it blew a huge hole in the side of the rocket

I gotta think it's not gonna be a very pleasant ride for a daily driver. 4,000 lb car with 4,000+ payload if it's able to create 8,000 lbf of suction has to have really really stiff suspension.

So many dumbasses trying to downplay what SpaceX and Tesla did. They're trying so hard to come up with reasons why the roadsters a failure instead of realizing what a success it is.

About keeping it secret. The behind the scenes videos show the ramp covered. But it doesn't show the whole area beyond the ramp where the car flew to the ground covered.

Did they do that for the first time live?

Maybe people have realized that Elon is really full of **** when it comes to what his cars are capable of. He routinely over promises and underdelivers while blowing past estimated timelines.

People who put money down on the second gen Tesla roaster are still waiting for it to go into production (it was announced in 2017).

Do I even need to mention the cyber truck?

I wouldn't be surprised if what we saw this week was a glorified go cart with a fiberglass shell that's a fraction of the production weight.

Its a religion. I swear that the man will get humanity to Mars. No one would have done it in my lifetime without Elon. Its insane to me the hate he gets for believing in different politics. But then I realize they don't hate him for that. They hate him as an apostate and a heathen. Not a political opponent.

I think it's perfectly fair to question if any Tesla vehicle will be in production on the timeline Elon says. Elon unveiled an entirely different Roadster prototype a decade ago, and production was supposed to start in 2020, and obviously that never happened. He has also been years off in other announcements.

It's also fair to say that there are questions about what will be street legal. Fan cars aren't street legal yet, so the whole suction system may not be in final models, unless they can get laws changed or have some sort of way that it uses GPS to disable on public roads.

I don't get the people who have been getting pissed off at the demo. Yes, it was obviously a marketing stunt. I think that was pretty obvious, and made pretty clear by the fact the flying version is one version you can't preorder. It clearly won't be street legal. Also, there are no roads that go upside down, so you'll never be driving on the ceiling. However, it was still an amazing feet on engineering. It's the closest we've seen yet to a true flying car (everything else has just been a glorified helicopter in my opinion). Who knows what we'll have in a decade or two.

Car companies build concept cars all the time that don't go anywhere. Ferrari builds F1 cars that no one can buy. It's what car companies do. They have their engineers that make cars for the public and an R&D team that makes cool stuff. That cool stuff sometimes makes its way to the public.

That's how I view the demo. The most amazing concept car ever made. The other models they didn't demo also look badass, and it's fair to question when they will actually go into production and what features they'll be allowed to have. It's no reason to get bent out of shape, though.

I'm actually about to donate walking tour of Boston!

But as far as Elon and the demo goes, it's a neat trick. Just temper your expectations, its just how he operates. Features he toutes are always years late or never materialize and it's gotten even worse since he decided to buy Twitter and dip his toes into politics. The Tesla Roadster 2, Cyber truck, FSD, Cybercab, etc are all examples of that.

I don't think we will ever see a functioning consumer version of what was displayed this week (flying car) which is fine! It's not super practical nor safe.

Be honest, do you really believe these are will ever be made?

Read the post directly above yours.
Yes everyone willing to be realistic knows that timelines slip. It happens in every manufacturer in every industry.

The difference... No one watched Ford or Gm or IBM's announcement. How far behind is the 777x?

My 25-year old daughter, living in Boulder, cannot even stand the name Elon Musk. Wild. She's a school if mines grad.

It has nothing to do with his life changing businesses, even though they'll say that.

As you can see, liberals don't like Elon and don't want to praise him for anything even though he's pushing the envelope and developing emerging technologies that will help us all. Flying cars right away? No, but let's not stop innovation.

Yep. His underdelivery on promises is responsible for about 90% of payload mass delivered to space the last few years.

Why can't he just be like Boeing and fail miserably?

The COPV version isn't limited to the Rocket version. The Thrust version would have it too.

Great... so the Ruskis are going to try to crash into this satellite and create a free thousand pieces of debris that will undoubtedly take 5 years to a decade (or more depending on altitude) to deorbit.
