Road closure cancelled, looks like we're standing down today.

Whew, looks like Elon got my TexAgs post just in time.

Appreciate that.

Anyway, the evacuation of the village is a more acute timeline of events. The road closures are scheduled and cancelled often. The TFR and Village EVAC Notice are the final timeline events before they start loading propellant.

Interesting that they do not launch on weekends for some reason...it is definitely not an overtime issue...

It's an agreement with the county to not interfere with the local's use of the beach.

And yeah, agree on the evacuation of the village. The 10am notice was given but not executed. When they actually kick them out you know they're going for it.

I have $10 that says the contract goes to someone else. And Musk does it anyways and beats them there.

Boca Chica Village.

It's a group of like 40 homes right next to where SpaceX builds and launches rockets in deep South Texas.

All but a handful of residents have accepted Elon's buyout offer so when SpaceX is going to test or launch they have to give notice to the 2 or 3 residents that are currently living in their homes to evacuate.

****ing called it. God I wish this wasn't so damned predictable.

And Chris is missing the point. For the "national team " (and **** are they arrogant SOBs to call themselves that), it's about that juicy contract and knowing they can milk it for an additional 10 years. The moon has nothing to do with it.

Ah, thanks. I guess the stragglers are waiting for a higher offer? Although it might be fun to live there for the time being.

As much as SpaceX is doing cool and necessary testing, it also has to be annoying to be someone who lives near enough to deal with things like this and road and beach closers.

Apparently one of the deciding factors why NASA chose the SpaceX HLS bid was they were willing to back-load the payment milestones to fit the budget Congress has authorized. It wasn't just a matter of being cheapest. SpaceX was literally the only option NASA could choose within their year by year budget.

Public bids will typically state the evaluation criteria and a common ground for protest is the government not sticking to its stated evaluation criteria - or not enforcing those criteria evenly. Boeing disputed the USAF tanker contract that was awarded to Northrop/Airbus on the grounds the USAF awarded Airbus "extra credit" for capabilities not specified in the RFP, to which Boeing protested "hey, we could have offered that if that's what you wanted."

So just spitballing here, but National Team could protest that payment milestones were a new criteria and they weren't given the opportunity to negotiate those. Or they could argue their price wasn't apples to apples with the scope SpaceX included. I don't know - I haven't seen the details of the protest yet.

If the protest from National Team is baseless, then chances are it gets tossed relatively quickly. SNC protested when SpaceX and Boeing were awarded the Commercial Crew contracts, and that got resolved in a few weeks if I remember right. If there was funny business in the SpaceX award, well; buckle up because that'll slow things down mightily.

Geez. What a bunch of sore losers. In a rare instance of the government showing that results matter, they file a lawsuit.

I get the complaint. It's a crap load of money on the table and big contractors don't go down easy. But I hope they end up making an award in merit not on name.

They are going to have a lot less of a fun time once they start flying weekly/daily BFR flights.

Difference is, spacex is usually right in their protests, even if they're denied. Their protests are usually aimed at why the higher bidder got more money with less service.

She's been offered HUGE amounts of money for that property. California transplants being stubborn asses, thinking they're making a statement. He will eventually have to fight the imminent domain fight, but for now they're cooperating.

Any inconvenience they've been caused is their own fault at this point.

some of those guys have some serious equipment setup to livestream these launches,, for awhile EDA was worried he'd lost about $20k in camera gear when sn11 blew up https://www.reddit.com/r/SpaceXLounge/comments/mgfyoq/every_day_astronauts_stream_as_sn11_debris_falls/

2017 presentation some might find interesting to revisit re: Mars.

More recently in October 2020;

Also, TFR's are up for tomorrow and Tuesday @ BC, starting at 8am.

I think a weather window opens up Tuesday, who knows though with SN16 stacked in the high bay.

Anyone know if they're still doing the 10km flights or if they're going higher?

Don't feel sorry for the residents. SpaceX bought out everyone that wanted out. Those that are left are either space nerds or those that want to AirBnB to space nerds.

I'm watching this video now. Pretty good. A couple of interesting tidbits:

Elon is the CTO of SpaceX only because they "couldn't find anybody good" to hire since they were a new rocket company.

Also, he's talking about Starship being able to land anywhere in the solar system.

It's because Elon wants to make the technical decisions. He makes the final technical decisions at SpaceX and Tesla. Everything has to be done his way.

Chris Thompson now at Astra would disagree with this statement. He was a co founder of SpaceX and the original CTO.

Top part is ranked by payload to orbit.
Bottom part is ranked by launch cost.
