Didn't For one thing weapons are totally banned in space but I'd be very curious how you enforce that without... Weapons...

Not totally, just WMDs

Wait really? I absolutely thought space was by treaty unarmed. So we could have small scale death sats? That's cool.

Can? We almost certainly have them.

Ha, yup. But no fighting on celestial bodies. I know the USSR was a signatory to the outer space treaty but don't remember if China did or not.

Sigh, government alphabet agencies slow FAA approval through to no earlier than March 28 now. Environmental justice, climate change, fish disruptions, you name it. Bureaucrats gonna do their thing…

The Navy has allegedly had space tugs for 30 years. When the Russian Service Module was delayed, NASA considered repurposing one of these tugs as a propulsion module for ISS.

I assume that's a veiled threat to not fly Soyuz to the ISS, and not a threatened attack on the station.

is Elon implying he can provide reboost to the ISS which is currently only done with Soyuz? Reprogram dragon to use the Super Dracos? Keep a 2nd stage docked?

I think somewhere in the past a scenario existed where Starship could dock to ISS, but I'm not 100% on that. I think it could be done inside of a year if the government would tell the FAA to stfu.

Has anyone heard any updates about Starliner recently? I've been swamped with work and some personal issues, plus Ukraine, so I haven't really been keeping up with much.

Spoiler alert: it's not going to be approved by March 28th, or April, or May...
No, I don't care what CNN or MSNBC said this time

When...i mean uh, "if" the great orange dildo fails, they'll probably get the screws put on to let them go. Especially if the rumors starting to fly about ANOTHER blue origin engine delay have any legs.

ISS inclination is 51.6*. By and large he's correct, it does not orbit over Russia.

Looking like telling Boeing they have to prioritize dreamchaser may be the way to go....I have much higher confidence in it anyway, and it's a more practical to use system for reboost

Europe has banned all aerospace/space exports to Russia (last year this totaled $3 billion), and russkies are pulling out of ESA launch complex.

Something tells me a non Soyuz reboost plan is going to need to be expedited pretty quickly. When does the ISS need the next reboost? I am not sure how/where to look for that.

Yes, and 51.6 > 41.2 degrees. Most of Russia is well above 51.6, but there are parts that go below.

Russia seems to be fully drunk on power at the moment. Feels like they're daring everyone to stop them everywhere.

Yeah, and someone needs to knock them down and show them a dose of reality.

Not the point. The point is we don't need "partners" who would just as soon let the ISS drop on US territory because someone said some nasty things about their invasion of Ukraine. That's not the kind of "partner" we should have ever been doing business with.

So we had a discussion today and I almost think Musk could out-populate space if Russia and/or China tried to knock down Starlink sats. They might have anti-sat tech but SpaceX put 90 Starlink sats in orbit this week. Sure there's several critical paths but you are launching at least one anti-sat missile per Starlink. Add in the reusable first stage and fairings, I think Musk might be able to put more Starlinks in space than they could physically shoot down.

Targeting even a few hundred satellites would generate so much debris that it could potentially kill manned spaceflight.
