Being able to handle confrontation has very little to do with intelligence and much more to do with personality.

Oddly enough people who are better at handling confrontation likely appear to be worse at it. The reason being that disagreeable personalities will fan the flames of a confrontation because they are more comfortable. While agreeable personalities seek to put out the fire (if they can't put out the fire they are likely to lose control). To an observer a situation that is calmer will appear "handled better" when that isn't true.

Isn't that like saying it's the one addicted to gambling that's really better at handling it, because they are more comfortable with losing their mortgage and going into bankruptcy?

I have known people that appear to love arguing or just appeasing; when in fact they are emotionally in control in conflict and are quite successful in the process. (Success being getting to an agreeable resolution. )
