Definitely the model to follow. Putting other governors to shame. He made mistakes in the beginning but owned up to it. Unlike others that don't know how to.

And it is not that they have herd immunity. Wishful thinking. To get immunity, you need to have around 80%. They are far from that. He stuck to his guns and now it's paying off dividends.

Kudos to him for having the balls to do the right thing and not follow Trump like sheep on the way to the slaughter house.
Please provide evidence that he owned up to his nursing home policy that accounted for the majority of NY deaths. We're all breathlessly waiting.

Just curious can you point me to where Cuomo owned up to and apologized for putting covid positive patients into nursing homes?

My county has had 3 deaths but my state is banned?

Broadway is shut down anyway and that is the only reason for going for me

Republican governor. Can't have those GOP cooties on the loose, otherwise Cuomo and deBlasio could lose their phony baloney jobs.

First: Sure would like to see some link or current stats to back that one up.

Second: Interesting analogy, are we talking a proportionality of very old sheep being sent into a slaughterhouse? I thought that happened in NYC.

In all seriousness (and ignorance) - and there might be other threads about this - but how do these states restricting other Americans from traveling interstate get around the Constitution and the interstate commerce clause?

The federal judge in Hawaii has been busy. Oh wait, Hawaii is also on lockdown. But I digress.

Public health emergencies grant wide swaths of power, temporarily. That's the key here. Were the bans permanent, they would be struck down.

Thanks for the reply.

I am sure there are lots of gray areas, thin lines, etc. - probably will end up in courts, etc......

I do think there is a slight chance there will be a few cases that will make their way to SCOTUS regarding some of the measures imposed by governors during the covid in the next years. To do that, however, SCOTUS will have to use the Roe v. Wade theory of mootness being waived because it would be a recurring question.

IOW, because the chances of future pandemics exists, they can hear cases and decide what are and are not acceptable measures under the Constitution.

But the opposite is also true, SCOTUS can just as easily decide to punt on the basis of the matter being moot.

Mootness!?

Geez, not sure they'll be able to understand why a conveyor belt will be introduced as evidence.

Sorry, I didn't "hawgsplain" that well. My assumption is that the lockdowns and other restrictive covid related matters are no longer in actual effect by the time a case derived therefrom reaches SCOTUS. Hence they deem the matter is moot as there is no longer an actual controversy for the courts to address.

The governor on June 30 also began requiring individuals traveling from Georgia to New York to self-quarantine for two weeks upon entering New York, an addition to an earlier quarantine order for several other states. Georgia on that day had "reached the level of spread required to qualify for New York's travel advisory," Cuomo said.

Yet on the recent trip to Georgia the governor was seen violating his own mask order, hugging and standing close to Savannah Mayor Van Johnson without wearing a mask, as seen on an online video.
Quote:

Both politicians had earlier fielded criticism for being seen "elbow-bumping" without wearing masks, with Johnson admitting to media that the two men "messed up" in doing so. Johnson during that press conference did not acknowledge the hug the two men shared; Cuomo has also not publicly acknowledged the hug.

The state of Georgia does not have a mask mandate, but several jurisdictions including Atlanta have imposed one.

Following that trip, Cuomo earlier this week was asked by media if he would be self-quarantining after his return from Georgia. The governor said he would not, declaring himself an "essential worker" under his own rule's exemptions. His administration also noted that the quarantine rule does not apply to individuals passing through a flagged state for less than 24 hours. Cuomo said he would take a COVID-19 test upon returning to New York to ensure he was virus-free.

Mask, Schmask...I just hope Cuomo didn't eat any "unsubstantial" foods like wings or chips while in GA...that's the real important issue here folks.

It's no secret that gun crime has exploded in New York that the city suffered through its bloodiest June in 25 years, that a 1-year-old was murdered July 13 at a barbecue in Brooklyn and that while Gotham isn't quite yet Chicago, Baltimore or Philly, the trend line is terrifying.

But then there's this, which hasn't been getting nearly enough attention: Between mid-June and mid-July a period when the city was wracked by the shootings, by a double-digit crime increase and by violent civic disorder arrests were down an eye-popping 62 percent compared to 2019.

Specifically, gun arrests were down fully 67 percent. Normally this would indicate fewer guns on the street, but the municipal casualty count demonstrates clearly that something else is going on.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo just gave his favorite punching-bag another heavy workout, taking Mayor Bill de Blasio sharply to task for the anti-cop graffiti disfiguring public buildings all over Lower Manhattan.

Too bad he had nothing much to say about the anti-cop politicians uglying-up New York's public square. Or the spent-bullet casings littering city streets on any given morning. There's a connection between the two, you know.

"I'm telling the mayor: Cleaning up the city is important. You have a lot of negativity in the air now. Positive progress, move forward," commanded Cuomo during a Manhattan press conference Thursday.

It was another through-the-looking-glass moment for New York, New York where shootings are up, arrests are way down and the pols all live with their heads in the ground.

Such incompetence. Cuomo is more worried about graffiti than he is a burgeoning crime rate.

Question: is this poster still around? Still feel like he is the 'model to follow' who 'put other governors to shame?' You haven't commented much on recent Cuomo news, but he's the same brother of Fredo he was at the time of this post.
