Her biggest mistake was letting him get too close and waiting for the lunge. She should have barricaded behind her driver's door and put him down when he hit the front of the vehicle.

Luckily for her, he apparently missed her with his knife swipe when she was back pedaling and her gun jammed.

If she stumbles or if he catches her with that knife, she is probably dead today.

But with scrutiny on cops today, she probably knew she had to wait until he lunged or her life would be ruined and maybe even go to jail.

WOW that was intense. Her training kicked in hard and cleared that jam without a thought. Thank God for body cameras and veteran officers.

Go try shooting in just a competitive environment like USPSA, and you will quickly understand how even a small amount of stress degrades accuracy among other things.

Heck. Go to the range with a friend. Have them watch your gun at the line. Go jog around for 5 minutes. Run back to the line, pick up the gun, and try to hit a target. You'd be surprised how higher heart rate, etc. screws up your shooting.

Impressed with her ability to back up and keep distance. Still had to lift her arm to block a knife strike, but if she's flat footed shes dead.

I think the gun jams because she couldn't keep a strong enough grip on the gun when swatting away at the knife. Great job clearing it and putting rounds down range.

Possible.

It's also possible that she is a normal human being, and normal humans have a strong dislike of harming or killing another human.

Add in the normal human disbelief that this bad thing is actually happening. I'm sure it was hard to process "oh my god, he's actually attacking me!"

Think about the deer hunters who forget to pull the trigger, or the soldiers in combat who can't bring themselves to shoot. I recall stories of civil was soldiers who would load 5-6 rounds in the muzzleloader, and forget to shoot, every time.

She only shot him because he was white. Should we meet at Target or the Nike store to protest?

Absolutely. And in your scenario there is nobody attacking you either. Pulling a trigger that has a 5lb pull with say just 7lbs of pull, will move a shot a foot or more low and left if done quickly at short distance. Having the presence of mind to keep your trigger pull consistent to the way you practice but now in real life is a very difficult task.

My post was not to criticize her, but to show the systemic problem that officers face today.

Criminals don't obey orders from police, but the police can't respond with deadly force until their life is in danger.

20 years ago, this guy would probably have been shot 5 seconds earlier, but not cops can't do that or they will go to jail.

It is not the cop's fault, it is a systemic problem where the police are almost guilty till proven innocent as well because people will protest and the DA will indict or the Police Chief will fire them.

Joe has been watching the Dog Faced Pony Soldiers western again. You know the one where in a duel, that guy wings him from 50 feet and saves the day.

Stop the video and you can see more of what's going on. At :04 you can see blood coming from upper left chest. It might have been a touch high for a good lung punch. The last round before the jam is what stopped him. He gets his hand in behind the gun and is swiping it down as it goes off hitting somewhere around the groin area. His hand behind the gun looks to block the slide from working properly.

In New Zealand, their cops don't wear guns. I was pulled over for speeding there and he was incredibly friendly. It was almost weird. Anytime I've been pulled over in the US, the cops are generally kind of brash or rude even though I've been friendly/cordial from the start. Anyway, I made a comment to him about how friendly he was and it being different from my other experiences and his response was it's because we're not allowed to wear a gun. They had a gun in the car if needed, but didn't wear it.

I don't support cops not wearing a gun, but New Zealand also didn't seem to have the **** neighborhoods like we have here and I imagine their crime rates are significantly different than ours as well so that clearly plays into it.

New Zealand also has a much more homogeneous population that share similar values. That plays a big factor into it.

That perp was stalking the cop as soon as he stopped his car. He walks up to her moving in front of the police cruiser for cover to get closer for his rush.

The only time off the cop should get should be for her own physical and psychological recovery.
