The whole idea of "protocol" to me is nuts

I tip generously when I feel like someone provided awesome service. That's less likely to happen at a counter, but it still happens occasionally.

I'm also perfectly comfortable drawing a little mark right through the "tip" blank on a receipt where I felt it wasn't necessary.

PR has such a large debt because it has been operating under GND (socialism). AOC wants to wipe the debt clean, ignoring the losses of those who invested in PR, and start socialism all over again. When PR fails again I guess we just start over again?
Of course no one would invest in PR again knowing AOC et al will just cancel their loan.

My first rule is if you don't provide some sort of actual service, no tip. Then do you did you provide excellent service? Oh wait you asked for a tip before I got the service? No tip.

I end up still tipping the same service people and not the ones who have all added tipping options to their bill. On a side note if I order food from a typical sit-down restaurant I usually tip something because in my mind they are correctly packaging my food in a timely manner. Do I leave 18%? No, but 10%? Likely if they are doing a superb job at getting my order together.

Also all the helpful tip calculators are ignored. Some start at 18% and some of the time the % is calculated "incorrectly."

That's very true. I've come across the calculation for after tax and after local mandate fees added in. Freaking ridiculous. Especially since in SF they already get $15 per hour AND the higher min wage has increased food prices stupidly high in the last few years, so it's basically tipping from a significantly higher started point due TO their higher wage. Screw that...
