A fearful society is a compliant society. That's why Democrats and criminals prefer their victims to be unarmed. Gun Control is not about guns, it's about control.

Cabinet invokes, VP becomes acting POTUS then Congress has 48 hours to assemble and 21 days to decide by 2/3 vote that he is unable to do his yob.

Giving congress the power to remove the president (by reason of the 25th amendment), without the executive branch invoking it would be crazy. That's not a check on balance between the three branches. That would be abused worse than what's going on now with impeachments…

In the 90's we had home phones that weren't tethered to the wall with a curly cable!

I wouldn't say most... we had a rotary phone in the early 80s. Then wireless receivers in the 90s!

Nice humble brag, you high roller.

We didn't get buttons until around 1991. I think the extent of our technology leap in the 80's was one of those really long cords.

We still had one in our house by the early 80s. Most of them were pushbutton in the house, but one of them still was. But I think the point was people just took the phone off the hook.

In the 1970's push button phones were $2-5 per month extra ( you rented phones from Ma Bell in those days). Eventually in the 1980's rotary and push button rental was the same (where we lived anyway), and most went to push buttons. Then rotary support ended and everyone was on their own to purchase their phones. That is when wireless phones became common.

If you lived in an area where GTE was the provider, I have no idea.

Remember when ATT vs MCI competed for long distance service, and a Cowpie and Fries was $2.00? Those were the days!

Maybe she meant "shower". She might not have showered in weeks and finally is breaking down looking for someone to get the water running again.

These bakelite phones were nearly indestructible. Also, if the dial did break off, and you had decent rhythm, you could dial one by clicking the receiver buttons the appropriate number of times.

In our area you got 1 rotary phone with your phone number. All other phones on that line had to be purchased or rented. The purchased or rented ones were push button.

My grandparents were kids during the depression. My Grandmom still had a rotary phone in the late 90s.

At my parents house, our rotary dial phones didn't even have an RJ11 modular plug. The cord went into a straight round hole. It wasn't until after the break-up of AT&T in 1982 that cheap touch tone phones started to become available that we got modular phone jacks installed and retired the old rotary phones. The touch-tone phones in the dorms at A&M were relatively modern.

For those of you too young to remember, Texas A&M was on the cutting edge of technology with their touch tone phone system for class registration. As soon as registration opened for your class and then block with the first letter of your last name, the switchboard was jammed with people manually redialing to get it and often dialing wrong numbers. Good times.
