But, the sauce was pronounced Wuh ste(r)sher...according to everyone I knew when I grew up in England. The 'r' in parentheses was slightly pronounced. We were in a medium 'r' part of England I guess.
But, then, I grew up in Bedfordshire. Maybe they pronounced it differently elsewhere (which in England is about 20 miles away).
Shire in my area was 'sher'. In other areas it was 'shire'. They were probably hoity toity people there.
