In the late 1980's my parents took their 1950 refrigerator that had been sitting idle for decades, turned it to maximum and used it as a freezer. The temperature inside was about 10-15 degrees.

It never broke down, even with that abuse.

My dad used to tell me that when he was a kid, they would run behind the ice truck and they would give them ice shavings in the summer. He said it was so good because nobody had any air-conditioning except for the movie theater.

Maybe so, but an exercise to remind us why you never ever let bean counters run anything. It may have been uncomfortable, but it was the norm for the times. Plus, you didn't have to deal with a fatty or much less an average person spilling over into your seat.
