BTW, the response most Dems have is "No, conservatives have gone WAY to the right!"

No worries, just listen to speeches from Presidential candidates in that time and tell me that again. Hell in 2008 Obama was against Gay Marriage and said things that would get you cancelled in a heartbeat today. On virtually every social issue conservatives have moderated to a tone that is more about being able to at least have their own right to do as they please vs trying to make others do what they want.
