Triboulet was a jester for Louis XII, the King of France from 1498 to 1515. He is perhaps most famous for slapping the king on the butt. This act greatly angered the king, and he threatened to have Triboulet executed. After taking a moment to calm down, the king decided to spare Triboulet's life if he could think of an apology that was more offensive than what he had just done to the king.

Dude doesn't get it or is intentionally being misleading. That's Whole Food's pilot Walkout store. You scan to exit because you don't have to check out. There's an option for a self checkout, but the whole point is to use their walkout technology. The store has cameras everywhere tracking what you select. You scan either the barcode from your Amazon account from the app, your handprint if you've set it up, or a credit card if you have no account. Pick what you want, scan the barcode to get out and you get an email with your bill later. No waiting in line.
There's a Hudson newsstand kiosk in Love Field with the same setup.
I'm not a fan, but picture strolling in, tap your phone, grab your items, tap your phone and you're out. If you get meat, fish, etc by the pound the employee scans the weight to let big brother know how much you got.
