When I was in law school, I had classmates who were in their 40s. Mostly retired cops who had job realted disabilities and some divorced Moms who were joining the "Feminist Movement."

Predictably the cops became even more conservative in their approach to the law and the 40+ women couldn't understand how anyone could go through law school and not become more ACLU oriented. But that was back in the time when the ACLU actually stood for something, like the Nazis ability to march through Skokie, Illinois.

I had a boyfriend during most of law school who was a third year when I was a first year when we met. He was struggling to find his niche when he began to practice. He never really GAF about people's sexual orientation but then some lesbians came to him to represent them in an adoption case and he was really torn. Very early 80s. Beginning of his career.

He agonized over whether he wanted to become the "gay adoption lawyer" or not. He was expendable and knew that. Ultimately he didn't take the case but when on to have a very successful practice as an appellate attorney before he retired some years ago.

Point being, law school has varying effects on people. Some go full left. Some go Libertarian. Some see the organization of our law as boundaries and become more conservative. Because rules matter and they work for the most part.

(OT: Man you would not believe the stories the former cops would tell in the cafeteria! Terry stops, my ass. They knew who the bad guys were on their beats. Follow them. Stop them. Then the pat down where an object was detected that felt like a knife. When withdrawn from the suspect's pocket, it was revealed to be a comb, but with a baggie of a green leafy substance attached.)

Much more Conservative. The law made sense to me. Order and it worked. I saw the simplicity and reason behind it while still adhering to the Constitution, mostly.

I was probably classified as a liberal Feminist before that. But law school in the beginnings of the 80s during Reagan? Became much more Conservative.

Aaaannnd, then I married a guy who was a Berkeley grad. Hell, he was hot and we had a torrid relationship. Then he became a business owner. His tune changed pretty fast. Loved Reagan after that. He was a tax lawyer. R.I.P.
