Also, anecdotally, my parents are in their mid 70s and have no social media and are not in any photos posted by family on social media that I know of. Mom has an iphone but only uses it for ohone, pics and maps. They just keep to themselves and live in the real world. It's not that farfetched, just that we under the age of 50 are so used to being online that we forget there are tons of people who choose not to.
This is what I was about to post. For old guy with no social media presence, as well as a guy that didn't really seem to have any family or friends close to him other than this lady they are tracking down, I don't find it strange that pictures have been tough to come by.

I agree with the assertion that this all doesn't add up. There is a missing piece of info about this guy. I hope it's uncovered. Is there anymore info re his possible recent convert to radical Islam? Fake news?

So what was the deal with this? Read that a few places early on, but there has been no follow up. Seems pretty important if it did indeed happen.

There's video of her interview with the news talking about it. I mentioned the same thing on the thread yesterday...according to the girl's story, Security escorted the nutty lady and a guy out, so security could confirm it.

My guess is it was just a nutjob who was pissed and screaming at someone, and it's a really sad coincidence. But who knows.

Honestly, I believe this is the biggest reason why we see an increase in mass killings across the globe. Arguing anonymously on the internet allows you to dehumanize people who are different than you until you can rationalize violence against them.

From Dylan Roof to Emanuel Samson to Antifa and Alt-Right and countless number of ISIS terrorists (don't discount the role of social media in spreading terrorist indoctrination), they all reached the point of looking at people different than themselves and concluding they are deserving of violence.
I was wondering about this yesterday, but was coming at it from the victimhood status. Since nothing is our fault, and it's everyone elses.................and so on.

How did we send 10 million, or so, men to the European, and Pacific, Theaters, of which maybe 2 million saw combat, and not have these kinds of things happen from '45 to '75, except for the tower in Austin?

Psychopath father. Seemingly mostly a loner. Seems to fit a decent profile for a mass killer, as many haven't necessarily had reasons we can fathom. One of the areas I'm most curious about right now is what is his medical history.

Absolutely correct.

So if some of the posts are right about that, what will it be with some of the Philippines hints? Besides, two day rule (at minimum) is still in force.

There are high stakes in this being pitched a certain way, so rather eager to see what if any clues turn up `outside' the press narrative. Things like whether the victims have different kind of bullets pulled from them and other forensic clues. And sorry, any rumor of Islamic conversion or sympathy if it holds up is more than enough if it is real. But so far that part is looking bogus.

Agree with that too. Its the most convincing part of the stated version of the whole thing because as the Sandusky thing shows, its sometimes more than a bit optimistic to assume the apple has stayed "well clear" of the tree fell from.

I think in general, people assume that all country music fans are country bumpkins which simply isn't true anymore. I actually can't stand country music (now...older country is good), but my wife's cousins from the northeast LOVE Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, and all of the pretty boys of country who are out now. It is ignorant of people like the "teacher" on Twitter who assumes country's entire fan base is full of rednecks from the Bible Belt.

I wish she had the balls to look at the pictures of those people and spew her Twitter message to the victims' kids, siblings, parents and friends. I mean, if you say something, you should stand by it right? Social media has created too many "brave" people who say things with no consequences. In real life people wouldn't say a quarter of the stuff they say online (here included).

I agree. All sides in the political sphere want to make hay out of this. Two day rule for sure.

I am starting to think there will be no answers to those looking for a "reason" this happened. It may be as simple and and unsatisfying (because it doesn't answer the "why") as this idiot was a loner that slowly slid into some type of psychosis/narcissism/personality disorder and saw this as some type of way to go out on top and in charge. Who knows.

And God bless all of the victims, their families and all of the first responders and health professionals. May you find peace.

Wasn't just randomly walking through the crowd....

Was supposedly in the front row and got into verbal altercation with someone....followed that up by telling everyone around them that they were going to die. Security was called and those two (the man with her) were escorted out.

Seems like just drunk a-hole being an ass.

You may be right about the victimhood angle.

David Brooks had an interesting article about how our society has rejected traditional morality and replaced it with a hierarchy of victimhood as a method of assuaging guilt.

Could be an interesting topic for another thread.

***Update @ 1:30 EST. Media just released the shooter was a former employee of Lockheed martin, a company that has exclusive contracts with Nasa, that'd explain the Nasa shirt in the video.

Really don't think the loner part is the only thing. What's with the pink garb? -- It almost looks like agitator sponsorship. But nothing can be known till the background those photos is better researched.

On the lighter side, you might find out more once and if you immediately freeze and seize everything associated with him and his activities. The complaints might arise from different quarters and you could go track those down.

Edit: Just saw the posts above. -- so he was very likely indeed a Leftist activist.

I suppose anything is possible and I am trying to keep an open mind. It is really hard to tell if that guy in the picture is the LV shooter. It has been stated he worked for a predecessor to Lockheed Martin back in the mid 1980s...30 years ago. That is a long time to keep a T shirt, but who knows.

If it weren't for my job I would be off social media by now and I am 39 and just kind of "over it." I read TexAgs and that is about it. The generation after us, understandably, is agog that someone may not have a social media presence since it is just so normal these days. *shakes fist at cloud*

Understandably it is also frustrating for the feds since social media makes it a lot easier to gather initial info on motive etc.

Agree with that too. Its the most convincing part of the stated version of the whole thing because as the Sandusky thing shows, its sometimes more than a bit optimistic to assume the apple has stayed "well clear" of the tree fell from.
Regarding the apple not falling far from the tree, Thomas Wictor has two tweet-storm threads that are well worth reading. The first one begins with newspaper clippings of Paddock's father, Benjamin Paddock, where he was classified as a psychopath regarding his criminal activity, including details of his life. (11 tweets):

Tweets #7 & 8 following the newspaper clippings:
Quote:

(7) The mass murderer was a chip off the old block.
All three brothers LIVED WITH BIG DADDY on the run.

(8) So Big Daddy taught the boys how to be impossible to find, how to leave no trace, and how to deceive.

Then a followup tweet-storm on Stephen Paddock (39 tweets) tells the whole story: Like father, like son. It is a fascinating read:
