SWAT was kicking down his door 15 minutes after the shooting started. The airport is right next to the Strip, and you assume there was at least one Vegas PD chopper either up as nightly patrol or on standby on the tarmac in case of a call out.
Guess I'm missing the point, or just haven't been to Vegas enough recently. Do they do background checks on arriving guests now or something? Why would they care if some dude from 80 miles, or even 10 miles away wants to book a suite for a few nights? The Debt said:
Did you check in for him?
And yes I've heard of a staycation, but unless you plan to stay in bed for the duration of the vacation, the money for the hotel would be better spent on massages, dining, activities, alcohol etc.
Not suggesting that at all. Just wondering how meticulous he was at covering his tracks with all that equipment with housekeeping.sts7049 said:
not enough suspicion for a hotel to think someone is plotting a massacre. i don't think we want hotel cleaning staff acting as screeners for potential terrorist activity.
the guy could have just closed up his suitcases and locked them and allowed them to clean the room a couple of the days before. i do that whenever i stay in hotels.

Las Vegas shooter's father, 'Bingo Bruce,' lived colorful life of crime and deception
The father of the gunman behind the deadliest shooting in modern U.S. history robbed a string of banks in Arizona, escaped prison in Texas and tried to start a new life as the manager of a bingo parlor in Oregon, according to historical newspaper articles.
Eric, the brother of Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock, who killed at least 50 people from his hotel room at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino late Sunday, told the Orlando Sentinel that their father was Benjamin Hoskins Paddock.
Quote:
Paddock, 64, was found dead in his room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas when a police SWAT team broke down the door. Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said authorities believe Paddock killed himself.
Officers found at least 10 rifles in the room. Police don't think anybody else was involved in the shooting.
Paddock had been at the hotel since Thursday, Lombardo said. Authorities said it appears he fired guns from his room into the crowd at the Route 91 Harvest music festival on Sunday night, killing more than 50 and wounding over 400.
Quote:
Marilou Danley was identified as Paddock's companion or roommate, Lombardo said. She does not appear to have been involved in the shooting and was in the Philippines when the shooting took place, authorities said. Paddock had been using some of her identification, Lombardo said.
Paddock had a private pilot's license and the FAA is gathering his records, according to FAA spokeswoman Laura Brown.
So far, authorities have found no military records for Stephen Paddock.
If it's going to get close enough to blow him up with a bomb, I'd give him a fair chance with a "spray and pray" strategy with an automatic weapon. They're not going to send up a bomb that's going to blow the whole side off of the Mandalay Bay--it's going to have to get right next to him.OnlyForNow said:
Little to no chance he can hit the drone with the rifle he was using.
remember the shooting incident at UT....plenty of civilians with rifles hanging around and shooting back.Deats said:

Whether it's guns or mental health or someone else, people often propose "solutions" in the aftermath of something like this that aren't necessarily bad ideas but probably wouldn't have changed anything.ntxVOL said:
Crazy people will do crazy things, mental health has been largely ignored in this country for decades but I am not sure fixing that problem would prevent something like this.

That was actually a very popular way to kill people back then. Hung, Drawn and quartered disemboweled.
IIRC, one of the cops who ended up shooting Whitman went to a student's house to retrieve a rifle before heading back to the scene. And one of the four guys who was actually on the 28th floor was a regular Joe.jokershady said:

You are assuming housekeeping and the front of the house are somehow correlating these things.akm91 said:I guess I don't see how 3 days of no housekeeping for a corner suite would not raise questions.Charpie said:

Spoke with a gun expert I know well, take it for what it's worth, but he says no way it was bump stock. He says he can hear a slapping sound which makes him think piston-operated AK47, full auto.
If these are indeed accurate and they appear they very well may be, CNN and MSNBC and all the left will hardly show these. He was one of "theirs" and that won't play well with their narrative.drcrinum said:

Man, this seems beyond fishy. Wouldn't be surprised to find out this has something to do with an organizational beef with Mandalay or some other weirdness. An accountant who lived an up-middle class life and had no political or religious affiliation. Doesn't quite pass the smell test (yet).
Also wouldn't be surprised if he just snapped.
i'm seeing less horror than you'd expectQuote:

this guy likely sprayed thousands of rounds into innocent folks out enjoying a Vegas evening... that doesn't take much training IMHO... no need to be an expert marksman.... just a nut job.
prayers for all the Vegas families.
