Thanks to whoever sent two Orthodox study Bibles. The great thing is this: Chaplain James has two soldiers under his watchcare who are Orthodox! They must have been praying...

I received them a while ago, and just found this picture. Thanks again.

Well if I had known that, then I would have sent one or more of these rather that that more expensive bible you suggested!

Ha!

Oh well.

All the Chaplains here in Tikrit say they have storage connexes packed full of standard Bibles. However, when I gave them two cases of Study Bibles you guys have been sending me, the Chaps said the Bibles literally flew off the shelves. Gone in five minutes, since they have the study helps. Pretty soon, I'm announcing an effort to get a study Bible in the hands of every soldier in Iraq who wants one. The Chaplains here have made a distribution system available through the Corps level chaplains to get them distributed all across the country. Then, we'll work on Afghanistan!

More later...

Jewish? Since your going outside of Christendom, you forgot Buddhist , and Muslim… Interesting view of Christ and salvation you have there… Did infallable Rome teach you that?

notafraid,

Why do you feel the need to be a jerk on a blauser/Bible thread?

Is the temporary good feeling and sense of pious, learned superiority you must get from taking shots at Catholics really worth it?

I wonder how many of the Bibles being handed out are "somehow" ending up in the hands of Iraqis?

bblauser, ever see any soldiers sharing their faith with the people there? Just wondering.....

notafraid - God loves the Jews as much as He loves Christians. Pope John Paul II referred to the Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem as "his elder brother", and I concur.

If you think that Jews are on a par with Hindus and Muslims, then you really have a problem with Romans 11, don't you....

JP called Muslims your brothers too, why are you not doing that also? If you are concerned that Jews get Torahs, then why not your Muslim brothers getting Korans?

How about this... You answer my questions, then I will answer yours.. I am just asking questions here. Not trying to offend you...

Blessings...

How about this:

How about you don't derail threads with dumb and unnecessary/inappropriate posts like this:
"Jewish? Since your going outside of Christendom, you forgot Buddhist , and Muslim… Interesting view of Christ and salvation you have there… Did infallable Rome teach you that?"

And how about we return to the original post:

Thanks blauser for your great work. Please let us know your greatest needs and how we can help.

I thought it was a very revealing statement he posted. It was a legit statement, and legit questions followed… Should I have started another thread? Why was it dumb, unnecessary, and inappropriate?

I've been requesting this Bible specifically. The Chaplains think it's great for the soldiers, because the study helps are focused specifically to people just starting out in their faith. It fits the situation here very well, as this is the first 'church' experience for many of the soldiers.

You're more than welcome to send me any type of Bible you'd like, and I'm more than happy to pass it on to the Chaplains.

I don't know the % distribution across Christian denominations. Total Chapel attendance tends to run 30% at Catholic Service, 30% at Contemporary Protestant service and 38% at Gospel service. Probably 1% Jewish and 1% Muslim.

jwr:

Most if not all of the Iraqis I've met (only a handful) do not read the English language. Some speak broken english (they understand almost fully, though), I've found, but none of them have been able to read it. They are Christians, though. I have sat down with a few of them and discussed their faith, and yes, they are already solid in what they believe.

These Bibles are going to soldiers on base. I'm not allowed off base, same with 99.9% of civilians here. So, there's no way I can distribute them to Iraqis. The soldiers for the most part don't take them off the FOB. To do so would mean it would get beat up in their vehicles, and they don't want that to happen to their Bibles. They don't take cases of them, either. The Chaplains make sure of that!

Thanks blauser for your great work. Please let us know your greatest needs and how we can help.

No need to thank me. I'm just about my Father's business.

The greatest need is for the Bibles from the link above. Chaplains in Baghdad have asked me for 325 of them, Chaplains here in Tikrit have asked for enough to distribute them to US soldiers countrywide through their network of Chaplains in all branches of military serving in Theater.

notafraid - I'm sure in your spring-loaded anti-Catholic mind you see subterfuge, hatred, and bias here, and that is to your everlasting shame. It's just that I have dealings with the Lackland AFB Freedom Chapel and can probably get some help from them on Protestant, Jewish, and Catholic Bibles. I wouldn't have a clue as to where to go to get a Hindu or Muslim book, and besides, the % of American soldiers who need these books is pretty small anyway.

Where is the love, notafraid, where is the love?

1 Corinthians, chapter 13:1: If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

2: And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

3: If I give away all I have, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.

4: Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful;

5: it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;

6: it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right.

7: Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

You are sure of that? Hmm.. Well, then I don’t suppose that I could convince you otherwise? To be honest (not saying this to insult you) I think it’s just somewhat of an ignorant position, meaning ignorant of the biblical view of unbelievers, but I don’t see “ subterfuge, hatred, and bias”. In fact, I don’t see where you could get that from. That anything (whether it is true or not) would be to my everlasting shame is also utterly unbiblical. Christ has born my sins, and promises to wipe away every tear, and there will be no more crying or death, or pain anymore. I can’t see how I could have everlasting shame for anything based on those promises. Can you?

Well, wouldn’t you really want people to become believers in Christ, rather than encouraging their unbelief with books that don’t teach them of salvation with Christ?

Have I been arrogant of rude, insisted on my own way, been irritable or resentful? If so please tell me where I have been this way so that I might repent.

Has anyone sent Bibles?

Can you send them from Christian book.com directly to the address posted?

Or do you have to receive them and then send them on?

thanks.

Hi Aggiez03. Cool handle.

Yes, just put the address in the 'ship to' section when ordering. They'll come directly to me, and I'll either re-ship them to the Chaplains in Baghdad, or pass them out here on this base or send them up to Mosul. Right now, Baghdad is the priority, since they don't have any SPSBs at the moment.

Feel free to email me with Qs at bblauser at gmail dot com.
