I would also say this type of dichotomy occurs throughout the Old and New Testaments. When God has a plan nothing can stop it (Joseph/Jonah) and everything happens for His glory. When the angel of death swept over pharaoh and the Egyptians all of their first borns were killed even the servants children died that night, completely innocent. When Jesus was born there was again a mass genocide of first borns this time man made. Either way completely innocent human life was mercilessly slaughtered. Mankind is in a fallen state because of sin, we always have been once Adam and Eve pushed that domino and gave birth to death.

I hesitate to tell Christians what to believe, but it has always seemed to me that God has no real reason to care whether souls are still attached to a body, or not.
Jesus, on the other hand, has lived as a human and understands.
