Yesterday. Typical list of sins sending us to hell written with the addition of sports watching.

Never have seen that one before. And never have seen any Scriptures supporting that.

Strange theology.

I love the Premium board. I had a bunch of stuff to do yesterday and couldn't watch the game but checked on the thread at halftime. "Wait you guys are stringing up Durkin in effigy because we've given up 57 yards and 3 points at the half?"

I got their tract last year. You know, I do agree that sports fandom can sometimes take too big of a part in our lives. But it's not a sin to go enjoy a competition and cheer for a team.

They would get more traction if they just offered to pray for you.

Agree. Anything can become an idol.

I am unsure of their motives. Not sure if they want to introduce people to Jesus or get attention.

What church/denomination are they from?

Heard one before game 1. I get the "football being an idol" logic, but I really got the vibe of your going to hell because you are going to Kyle field for a football game. Not exact words obviously.

IMO, message would have been better if it came across more as put as much (or more) into church on Sunday as you do going to football on Saturday. Or better yet, following Christ's example every day of the week.

Last week he was on a rant about kids playing video games. My 12 year old great-nephew was confused.

As a Christian, I ask myself if these guys really think they are reaching anyone with these tactics.

I tend to walk right past these guys myself without interacting but maybe I need to stop and ask what they're all about and what they're trying to accomplish…I may be assuming what they're trying to get at and missing their point altogether..Or maybe my first thoughts are exactly dead on…

I need to do the same.

I fear like they may be adversely affecting "borderline" young Christians.

And I wonder how many pastors, priests, deacons, and other clergy they are yelling at who go to the games.

Yeah who knows for sure…?…Maybe they need to hear what I have to say or vice versa….or maybe it ends in a draw…

I doubt street preachers affect anyone. People pay attention to them about as much as panhandlers going on some rant. There are much worse influences on "borderline" young Christians, especially on a college campus.

I'm not sure if getting 20-30 second, if that, snippets is a good way to judge whether these guys are theologically sound, whatever that may mean to anyone. Yeah, their schtick may turn off people, myself included, but who knows, they may hit on something every now and then.

A guy I know who was in Seminary in the early '80s, ironically with Elvis' stepbrother, Rick Stanley of all people, told the story once of Arthur Blessitt coming to class one day. Blessitt, as you may or may not know, is the guy who's carried the cross all over the world and around the US. He's probably looked at much like the guy at Kyle you're speaking about.

Anyway, so Blessitt shows up and everyone in class, including the prof, knows who he is. Most of the guys in class are there finishing up their MDiv and looking for a job at a church. Blessitt goes, "how many of you guys are looking for a church to preach at but can't find one who will give you a chance?"

Everyone in class raises their hand.

So Blessitt says, "there's 25 people over at the McDonalds across the street; why aren't you over there witnessing to them?"

The point is obvious: where there's likely unsaved people, there's opportunity. Now, if you're speaking SOLELY about his theology, then you may have an issue here. Although I'm concerned about Christian parents who've sold out to weekend, including Sunday sports programs -- which tells their kids that sports are more important than church. The kids learn that and feel justified in not attending church when the travel ball ends.

But if its the methods, who knows if it is madness or not.

Theology aside, I do not think going to a McDonald's and yelling through a microphone at people does any good either. And may do harm.

I want everyone to be saved. I just do it think that is an effective way of evangelization.

We have Bibles and Max Lucado tracts in our office and I often talk with my patients about faith and the Gospel.

I do not get a microphone in my waiting room and yell at people.

Hey, if it works then go for it.

And I agree what you said about Christian parents and not making church a priority.

I think Street Preachers can be speaking Truth and God's Word is never spoken in vain but like someone said earlier, hearing a snippet of it may not be enough to tell if they are theologically sound, a person with the wrong and twisted theology, or just a nut. Even if they are speaking Truth and are theologically sound, shouting and yelling at people in an angry way or making themselves look foolish somehow (and I don't mean that people think they're foolish because of the message; I mean their demeanor) is NOT the way to share the Gospel and yes will turn more people off of it than to be interested in it.

My family and I were on vacation in Edinburgh, Scotland last June and there were lots of street performers and folks on the main road in town and I thought it would have been fun to just set a table up with a big banner on the table that said "Want to go to Heaven? Ask me how" and just let folks come up and talk if they want to. Seems like you'd get plenty of folks at least coming to talk to you in that way and it can open up plenty of good conversations for anyone seeking that answer AND it's in a cordial, nonthreatening way although the Gospel itself is threatening to some because of their resistance to accept it. But I thought that would be a cool way to do it.

Hey, but if he wins one person to Christ it is wonderful.

Nahhhh

Weekly the average Christian Aggie Football fan…
2 hours on TexAgs debating Jimbo's future
1 hour texting with friends about the game and plans
3 hours driving to game
2 hours tailgating
4 hours at the game
3 hours driving home
1 hour texting friends about game

16 hours a week consumed with Aggie Football

Vs

2-3 hours going to Church Sunday
Few minutes a day doing a devotional
Few seconds a day praying before dinner

Mostly just having some fun but I'm sure we all have areas we dedicate way too much time and energy on, creating idols

I take Jesus everywhere I go. You can have "church" and Christian fellowship anywhere.

Some of the ones that set up in the tunnel after the games are members of the "Church of Wells." Basically a cult in deep East Texas, you can spend several hours going through that rabbit hole.

More street preachers yelling outside of Jerryworld yesterday.

Interesting my daily devotional asked the question "Do you tend to be more of a lawyer for God, arguing His case with others, or are you more of a witness, demonstrating and testifying to His goodness and grace? See the difference?
