Hi Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I was raised Catholic and I have done a LOT of research on religions over the decades.
I'll make this short and simple, it's just off the top of my head, read on with an open mind:

Why should we loose ourselves and give ourselves up within the hundreds and thousands of complicated confusing pages of holey books and scrolls of our dirty old blood stained religions, that so many of us fall into for our entire lifetime?

REALLY, there is no need for this delving, if we just take a step back and look at our religions' fundamental teachings, we can see their purpose because:

All our religion's fundamental teachings are and do to us:

  • this is not our world but an invisible god's.
  • we are only the created, Not creators.
  • women(the peace keepers) are less than men and so have less of a voice.
  • human slavery is just fine.
  • god orders killings.
  • war is ok.
  • to get something done in this physical world, instead of doing it physically, you should pray prey into your imagination mind machine and if it doesn't happen, then god didn't want it to. Otherwise pray prey prey deeper and more and loose yourself in your mind machine of obsessive sabotaging thoughts.
  • obsess about death and an Armageddon of death destruction on our precious earth and the promised afterlife Heaven, ALL so we Never EVER really focus on LIFE and creating the best life for all and a Heaven(HAVING) for all now in reality and so our bodies die at a younger age.
  • instead of us coming powerfully together each week to give some of our time and money to fix the problems of our world like starvation and war and make this a REAL-ity heaven(having) on earth for all, instead come together to continue an illusion of an invisible god and teach this to our innocent children. So trap a lot of caring loving people into doing nothing substantial to fix our world.
  • humans are not collectively a god and even if they are the closest thing to a god in existence, humans will never recognize themselves as such.
  • hold the holey books and scrolls in front of your hearts so you never look inside your hearts for the real holy answers and truths.
  • teach different religions because not everyone would fall for one religion as humans are unique, more than one religious god trap is needed to trap them.
  • write the holey books and scrolls vaguely so people find them more accepting in the vagueness.
  • more than one religion group keeps humans fighting between groups for their god.
  • it's easier to war or murder, bomb another/others if they *****ship a different religion god than you...or if they are a different skin color or speak a different language.
  • give us your money.
  • give us your children.
  • god is always quietly watching you so you will become mentally ill just thinking about it in the back of your mind machine all the time, instead of ever fully living.
  • your innocent children are inherently evil and will burn in hell for all eternity without any chance of a fair trial, parole or rehab. Make your prisons just as inhumane.

  • This list just goes on and on, it really does but I need to go. If this won't wake us up, sadly there's nothing more I can add that will stop you from hiding in your religions as our world worsens.

How do you conquer an enemy? You divide and then conquer. That is what our religions do. They separate us from each other and ourselves.
They de-thrown us from standing together and being real meaningful gods of our precious earth.
That is why this is currently a godless world.
Our religions give us the concept of a devil and a hell to make god sound better.
Have you just look at what religion does to neighbors Israel and Palestine? Two of the Most religious Countries of our world are Locked into a perpetual Hell of fighting and war with the other.

It is said that some priests molest our children physically because they know they are molesting their minds with the religions teachings.

Be aware that the opposite of "evil" is not the manipulative word "good" as many religions teach this lie.
If we simply spell evil backwards we get live or life. So we can simply and clearly see what is evil is what discriminates against or does not support or equally supports or kills "life" and living.

It has been proven, the more religious a Country is, the poorer we are and more disconnected from how physicality works we become.

Take care!

OP,

Don't know if you will see this, due to all the mocking comments.

You make a lot of valid points. Like you, I was raised in the church and was indoctrinated to fear God and believe in a terrible place called Hell. Later as an adult I finally understood Hell (and other biblical concepts) are simply guard rails to keep the sheep in the fold, to perpetuate the religion and bring in new sheep. It took some courage but I was able to de-program my mind, accept that this, like all religions, is an invention of men, and free myself of this trap, I understand what it means to make that journey, and I believe you posted this with good intentions. However, this has to be a personal, self-motivated journey, and it's unlikely you will ever be able to reach those who are deeply entrenched. It has to come from within.

If biblical concepts were 'guard rails' to keep the sheep in the fold, don't you think the government, or all governments rather, would be pushing it worldwide?? I see quite the opposite that 'comes from within.'

They did for millennia. It's how you get John Adams stating that people needed religious morality. It's not that he believed it so much as he believed people needed to be controlled through that mechanism. It's why Marx considered religion an "opiate," designed to suppress change and entrench power. The separation of church and state in Europe is a post-WWI phenomenon.

I'm not a believer either and agree with a lot of what you have here.
But if you want to be better received, and start some real conversation you need to come across less angry and confrontational. Proper spelling, grammar, and formatting can help too. Otherwise you'll get laughed at, like the posts so far, instead of taken seriously.
Ultimately realize the only mind you can change by posting here is your own. You aren't going to change the minds of religious people who you might think have been practically brainwashed their entire life. However, by pointing out some of these things at the right time and in the right way you might just change some of their opinions about things like homosexuals or religious influence over the government.

I was raised Catholic also.. couldn't disagree with you more on many of your points. It would great if you would follow up with your most important point and we could have a genuine dialogue. We will likely disagree, however, it would be informative (for both) and I can't think of a better topic than God.

1. Can you define "fear" so that I don't presume you mean fear of a punishing force? The fear I have is of separating myself through my freewill from a loving relationship with God. God remains, I choose otherwise.

2. How did you come to this understanding of Hell? I ask, because, I too was "indoctrinated" and have come to understand hell as a place/state of being that people choose to be apart from a loving, merciful God.

3. "Perpetuate" - If by this you mean to evangelize the good news of salvation to the ends of the world. I don't see how that is a trap?

You sound logical and maybe I am assuming that your indoctrination was lacking, but I would hope that you can understand that the good news is indeed - good news! I am sorry if that got lost in the middle of a lot of ritual, but know this - God loves you and desires greatly to be a part of your life!

yeah OP is coming off as the angry, arrogant atheist caricature. I'm not sure he'll come back to discuss some of the points he's made, being a rook and all. he's probably new to this forum and doesn't understand that posting long and preachy messages isn't going to be taken all that well.

Welcome. It's lose, and holy. You're not as clever as you think, we have good discussions around here with some very cerebral knowledgeable people, you're not the only atheist here and it's doubtful you're going to argue anything new we haven't seen before.

To bring a point about your obviously immature and poor Catholic understanding, and I can guarantee your lack of faith started with the incongruity of hell vs unbaptized innocents or ignorant Africans, I would venture to say your understanding of hell and eternal suffering comes from the Middle Ages fire and brimstone interpretation of hell and you reject the notion of someone suffering such torment for eternity for being ignorant/innocent. So does Catholicism, but I bet you were never taught that.

I like Jordan Petersons definition of hell.

It's where most people eventually wind up when they don't have purpose or meaning in their lives. It's the place you find yourself in when nothing makes sense or really even matters. A place of no hope, and no real reason for existance. It's a real place.

Christianity is a fantastic road map on how to avoid it.

Actually I'm a former Catholic, born and raised in the Cult.
I was lucky enough to see the light and get out and stand as a real god.

I'm not gonna waste much time here on lost souls but perhaps this seed will awaken some of them.
This is the time for awakening to Je-S-Us, He-iS-US.
Even with answers in our very words we Gods collectively subconsciously created many can not see....

Aliens won't come to save us, they won't show themselves.
Haven't they had us where they want us gods, lost in our sabotaging mind machines.
Only some abductions here and there to enhance our dna designs and enhanced obsessive sabotaging controlling thoughts.

Take care

Great question.
Because isn't it Very telling how the word Holy is a derivative of Holey... as in our Dirty Old Blood Stained Holy Books and Scrolls that have causes so much harm and wars and kililng and confusion and SEPARATION from each other and ourselves is so Full of Holes.
So Very Holey indeed!

Hey just like Pray, praying....and Preying, Prey-on others, Prey on people's minds, Prey on your victims...Preying on the Children as our religions do to us.

Go to Religion services if you want to see a lot of ill people. Because after all, we all know that often the mind illness triggers body illness.
Our bodies will show us what we are doing to ourselves when it is not supportive to our health and life.

Yes continue to do what you only know, to pray, pray pray yourself to death as many do.
Hope you don't get Alzheimer's like some heavy prayers I've known.
That will prove something won't it?
Too bad it will be too late for you when you realize the lesson.

Well at least I can always say I tried to warn you.
So many refuse to learn from other's mistakes and lessons.
And our religions really are a clever trap and quite the mind trap.
