I have never understood the thought process of "we should live a better life, because Christ may come back soon."

You could get hit by a bus crossing the street tomorrow and for you, wouldn't the result be the same? Shouldn't you be living a better life anyway?

Could not agree more. Live every day like you coul die and meet the Lord. And that is a good thing, not a bad one. People seem to forget Gospel means Good news.
