Retired ... unlike many on these texags forums, I don't live here. Only post an occasional comment and then come back a while later to see the direction the thread has taken. Have been mis-interpreted too many times to really get involved or care much.

There aren't many restaurant chains willing to close on Sundays, so this one is in a tiny group.

The local store is right across from the LDS temple and the headquarters are in Utah, so a potential connection between the LDS and Kneaders is possible, and I'm willing to admit perhaps not really there.

But there appears to be one of their chains that is open on Sunday. I couldn't find anything on their site indicating they have corporate policy on the issue. Plus, your OP presented it as though people have protested CFA for being closed on Sundays, but I can't find any instance of a protest for that reason.

Don't you mean for Proposition 8 (which was an amendment to not recognize same-sex "marriage")?

Why does it matter if they are closed on Sundays?

We have entire counties here in the northeast where nothing is open except restaurants and gas stations on Sundays...helps with traffic quite a bit...though saturdays can suck!!!

I remember the good old days in Texas when things were closed on Sundays. Sure, it's nice to be able to go out on Sunday and get things done, but I loved that encouraged down time and family time.

Companies had to be closed on a certain day for you to want to spend time with your family?

Why would it matter if anything was open or closed for a family to spend time together?

Jesus remembers the good old days when people followed his command to keep the sabbath and kept things closed in Saturday.

Yes, that's exactly right. I only to want to spend time with my family if stores are closed. You got me.

You literally took no time to actually think about what I said.

No, I did.

I just don't understand why it would have any impact on families spending time together or engaging in down time if businesses were closed on Sundays.

Normally, if my family wants to spend time together at home we don't check to see if businesses are open or not. We just spend time together.

It would matter if you were forced to work on Sunday at those stores that stay open.

You could try and get a job that isn't open on Sunday if that is your priority. One the other hands lots of people depend on the hours they get from their business being open on Sunday too. If you aren't having family time though it's your own fault.

Now THAT is some convoluted reasoning there.

What is convoluted about it?

Why not just ask for Sunday to be an off day?

If things are so bad that you have to work on Subdays to make ends meet I think that would be a priority over spending family time together.

Quite frankly, I've never understood the whole "i'm being nice to you by reducing the number of days you can work and get paid" mentality. I don't know that the hourly (which would be about everyone) employees really want and/or appreciate that.

I get it if you are a hands-on owner and it's easier for you to be closed so you can have a day off...but then just admit that.

edit: I'd be really impressed they would paid their employees a full shift for sunday.

The closed Sunday's is for the franchisee, not the hourly employees. CFA requires the store owner to be present a very high % of the hours the restaraunt is open. It is a big part of why their service is so much better than other fast food chains.

What about people who WANT to work Sundays, and would prefer to have say, Friday or Saturday off for their respective religious Sabbath day? Should they close those days too?

Damn those stores for being open!

It's called a work schedule. If you need Sundays off, you work that out with your boss, or perhaps find a career that doesn't require you to work on weekends.

This is incorrect. Namely...because this is what is on their website:

quote:
Our founder, Truett Cathy, made the decision to close on Sundays in 1946 when he opened his first restaurant in Hapeville, Georgia. He has often shared that his decision was as much practical as spiritual. He believes that all franchised Chick-fil-A Operators and their Restaurant employees should have an opportunity to rest, spend time with family and friends, and worship if they choose to do so. That's why all Chick-fil-A Restaurants are closed on Sundays. It's part of our recipe for success.
I also disagree that being off a day matters in their service. Service is better because their particular model focuses on it. Nothing more, nothing less.

edit: for me, the initial comment was that I find their whole stance odd because they omit that they aren't paying people for this "day off"...which can suck if you need the money.
