My wife, Jessi and I are having some problems right now. She feels that it is over and that she can't try anymore. I want to make things work, because I know that she doesn't want it to end, she just needs some time to think. However, she is very negative towards me, says that I make her feel angry and uncomfortable whenever I am around and that she doesn't like us together. She says that our marriage isn't going to work, but that we should be able to be friends and get along because of our daughter. I think that she is wrong. I'm not asking for your opinions, or your pity, I just want to have as many people as possible pray for the both of us, because I don't know how else to try anymore except through divine intervention on both our parts. Please pray for my family.

To an extent, I agree. But there is a fine line here. My wife and I present ME weekends, and we've had couples come who were in a situation like kestrel48 described. Retrouvaille is indeed for troubled marriages, but generally is for couples dealing with more serious issues, like drugs, abuse, infidelity, etc. Having presented many weekends over the years, I've seen the Holy Spirit renew many marriages where couples were thinking of divorce.

I generally advise couples to consider the ME weekend as long as none of the extreme circumstances noted above exist. The long and short of it is that if there are some big issues of forgiveness and healing that need to be worked through, Retrouvaille is where the couple needs to go. Otherwise, ME.

My suggestion is simple, but it might serve as a starting point. Try to re-discover those things which made you fall in love. Sometimes relationships can become stale. Reflecting on what once made the relationship special might help.

He’s livin’ on the air in Albuquerque.

He eventually got full custody of his daughter and found a better job up there. I’ve traded a few emails with him and hoped to visit for a winter skiing trip, but I lost my job in December, so it’ll have to wait until next year. Also, I’m still hoping he will make it down for at least one football game.
