they turned out to not all be 140...aparently that was only in May and June...

the rest actually turned out to be 80-120 depending on the weather good weather menat more hours for equal pay...

i chose 80 in that post to simply state that I was working two full time jobs and getting paid for one.

...quit that job btw...back to looking again.

would you like me to request a copy of my timesheets for your approval? I can easily show you paystubs, but since i was on salary they all just show 80 hrs for 2 weeks...liars.

To TimsParents:

Mr. and Mrs. Kerlee,

Though never having the privilege of knowing your son, and having been as active as possible in the Aggie Student Bonfire, I can tell you that if burn happens the night of 17 November, I for one will not be there. Rather, I will be out with what Ags I may gather, and we'll be sitting in silent contemplation of your son and the other eleven. At the stroke of 2:00 am, we will make our annual trek to the Polo Fields, and pay our respects in our silence and prayer to your son. Your sacrifice and dedication inspire--even now--faith in the Aggie Family when so many aspects of Our Family have fallen by the wayside. I can do nothing but grieve for your loss and bless your son, may he rest in peace.

God Bless,

Ben,

I'm curious as to when your annual vigil begins. I think that having it at this particular time gives everybody a great chance to experience something young men and women literally laid down their lives for and then go out to their memorial and pay respects.

What really confuses me is how some people think that by going out to burn, you are in some way insulting or degrading the memory and legacy of them and Bonfire. You're respecting what they did, if you believe this is the same fire, and then you're going to pay your respects.

All of us feel for them, pray for them, and think of them on that day...and many many other days for that matter. But to think that you're going to boycott anything on 11/17 for the rest of your life just doesn't make sense.

Additionally, it feels as if you're trying to prove something by posting things like this. It's as if you're trying to say you respect them more, you hurt more for their loss and you're just all around a better person for not going to burn this year. That's an insult to many, especially those who are going to work their butts off this fall to make burn happen in November.

Ben, do you perform these same sorts of things on Good Friday and on 9/11 too? Or do you go on with your life, just as those who died on this same day would hope that we all do?

SquareOne.. be careful about "something young men and women literally laid down their lives for"

Usually that phrase is reserved for people who know that as being a part of something they may perish, not a situation where it was completely unexpected. I know from one of my friend's parents that they do not like to hear that they "laid down their lives."

Just mentioning this because that is a very touchy subject with some.

I apologize, and good point, but the point still does remain that this was something they were extremely passionate about doing and did die while taking part in. But, yes, you do make a good point and I'm sorry for any who do find that particular phrasing offensive.

However, please try not to overlook the initial message behind the post.

Square,

That post was real refreshing. Thank you for those words.

I'll second that......Nobody laid down their lives for Bonfire. I have never suggested that. They were, however, doing something they loved and were among friends. Hopefully that has been of some comfort to their families.

I just can't help but think that it might just be appropriate that when you go to pay your respects to this particular group of 12 young people.........you go there having spent your night like they would have & smelling a little bit like smoke.

I'm not trying to make light of anyone's pain. Nor am I speaking out of blissful ignorance that my username suggests. I was the first person to sit down with Tim's parents to try & explain why Bonfire was worth saving. With a little age & perspective, I think maybe I was wrong about more than I was right. Just know that my heart was in the right place.

Two things are required for bonfire by Tradition.

1) It takes place the nite before the game if the game is in College Station.
2) It takes place the second nite before the game if it is in Austin.

Nothing in tradition says it must be on campus, nor that it be santioned by the university.

As for bonfire not being renewed as a tradition by ol'd ags, I can only speculate they have grown old like dying embers of a fire that will not burn brightly again.
Sad.

The bonfire should burn again!

I think to many people there are several different requirements for bonfire to be a tradition aside from the simple timing of the matter

In my recollection, the Off-Campus Bonfires for my Freshman & Sophomore years were on the Saturday before the game.

Scott's mom and I don't have a problem with burn on the 17th. He is there with all of you whenever the burn is. If it is not burned, then he would be sad. Yell loud and burn proud. See you at 2:42.
