I'm gonna have to agree with square on this one. You will piss more people off if you DON'T announce than people that will be turned away for not burning. Although pissed off people are still paying people positive feedback is ALWAYS a necessity.

Just be honest about it.

For the record I've got family coming down from Dallas for burn night, so I'm sensitive to their driving ~7 hrs round trip for something that may not materialize.

I agree with what FtnTXAg03 said, but can also see the side of the more shirt-sleeve spectator. Inevitably it'll do what it do.

I don't think people will really be very eager to drive down and gather with fellow Aggies in a field where they thought Bonfire was going to be.

if there is no burn they need to make an announcement, not hide it. People that understand bonfire for the spirit of what it is will still come, but that doesn't mean you have to anger and waste the time of people who just want to appreciate the burn. we want those people to want to come back next year, not develop a bad name for ourselves.

I'm planning on driving in from Austin. Not being 100% transparent about the status of burn is extremely unprofessional and will surely alienate supporters.

weather and burn ban conditions very on a day to day basis. it's hard to predict we would be in this situation. maybe we could turn this into a positive for future years and establish some sort of plan of action/outline for how we can still burn bonfire and meet Robertson county's needs in the future?

Burn Night means burning. Shoot straight.

Bonfire will NOT burn tonight. Other festivities will go on as planned.

Student Bonfire has been upfront with whatever information they were given, and when they felt like they weren't given enough information, they persisted in getting more. It is unfortunate that the "final answer" was not available two weeks ago, but I think we owe that to the fact that Robertson County was not so quick to rule out allowing a burn. I am thoroughly impressed with the diligence and responsiveness of Bonfire. I'm proud of what they've done, I look forward to tonight, and years more to come.

is misleading, albeit not deliberately so. The typical visitor will read that sentence and think "Oh, it's burning!" without understanding that the author was referring to everything but the burn, and subsequently finding the truth buried further down the page.

The Reds, county, et. al. have all worked very hard to stay on the same page and act in the best interests of all parties.

Who was the fire crew that was supposed to be out there?


If we get an sffma instructor out there (there are thousands in the state) and that crew than we can pull this off.

I hold a SFFMA level one and level two cert Both probably a little too late to get this burn called as a training burn for the vfd.

Ive been calling like mad to robertson county departments. None so far are willing.

And none of the volley depts. in brazos are answering.
