With the off campus Bonfire, is the tradition of bonfire buddies still around?

Does anybody remember what I'm talking about or am I just that ol' army?

That tradition hasn't been resurrected in the off-campus Bonfire, as far as I know. It would be harder to implement, given the mixed gender of most of the crews.

Honestly, if anyone really cares to kick it back into practice, all they'd have to do is pair up a random frat with the Walton boys.

My freshman year I had a Bonfire buddy from Hobby. I think I met her once, maybe twice. The only thing I remember her giving me was an Aggie Bonfire coffee mug (that still is my preferred mug that I take to the office with me).

I never saw the girl again after that. I think she was good friends with one of my girl friends so I'd hear her name from time to time, but never saw her.

Fast forward 10 years to 2007 and I'm standing in Hobby waiting to board a flight home with my boss (also an old Bonfire guy). I notice that the short girl standing in front of me is cute and looks vaguely familiar. Then I notice that she's wearing an Aggie ring. After racking my brain for several minutes, it dawns on me that this was my Bonfire buddy. I have zero recollection of what her name was. So somewhat awkwardly I tap her on the shoulder, "Excuse me ma'am, did you live in Hobby Hall?"

We then spent the next hour having a conversation that neither of us really had much to add to, but continued having because it seemed like the proper thing to do.

My daughter is Class of '93. Her Bonfire Buddy in '92 turned out to be her future husband! She had two other Bonfire Buddies during her years on campus, but this one stuck around. He was in Squadron 16 and she was a resident of McFadden Hall.

I've been a Bonfire buddy to the Greenpots for the last two seasons.

Bonfire Buddies came along well after I graduated, so it's hard to call you ol' army. But....
Here's my bonfire buds.

Ha! Hand't thought of my old Bonfire Buddy in years. She was AWESOME! Her name was Jodi! She did so much to keep me motivated and fed when I was a Crew Chief for Off Campus Aggies. She brought candy to my house, gave me Bonfire tshirts, called to check on me to make sure I got up for class, etc. I was actually asked to sing in her wedding which was a huge privilege. Good memories!
