Guys...I cannot tell you how sorry I am for putting my foot in my mouth the way I did this morning on 790 AM in Houston. I clearly spoke before I thought and said something that I would give anything to take back. I pride myself on doing my research and coming with accurate assessments regarding Texas A&M and Aggie Sports. But in this case, I made a comment out of the blue and based off of shear hearsay.

I hope that you guys can find it in your hearts to forgive me for being a complete idiot and for saying something without thinking.

I need you guys to also know that I brought up Bonfire right off the bat because I wanted to make that a big part of today's segment. I spoke for more than five minutes about my Bonfire experience and how affected I was by the fall. I talked about where I was when it fell and how special of a tradition it truly is. Most of the segment centered around how great Bonfire is and how important it is and was for the Aggie family and Aggie Spirit in general. I talked about the 12 who lost their lives on that day and how we should remember them and the families.

At the end of the conversation about Bonfire, I mentioned that I hope it returns to campus. I said that it might take several more years but that I could see it coming back before long. Then at the end, I made a comment that I will regret forever. I said that there is already an off-campus Bonfire and I did make a comment about it being more of a party and involved alcohol.

BOY, WAS I OFF-BASE!

I hope that you guys will accept my apology. I am a natural people pleaser and here I go upsetting each and every Aggie out there. I would do anything...ANYTHING...to take it all back. I feel so bad about this and I hope that you will sense my contrition and forgive me for the baseless and downright stupid comments.

My heart said to come on the show and make it about Bonfire. And in my idiocy, I found a way to screw it all up.

Again...I'm very, very sorry for my actions!

I really miss Bonfire! It played a huge role in my decision to be an Aggie and I hope that it makes a return to campus in the future! It’s one of the greatest traditions out there and one for which I have a great passion!

Sincerely,

damn yellow pot, i understand you being pissed off but the dude owned up to his mistake.

take it easy man, he seems to obviously regret what he said, no need to try and rub his nose in it.

people say and do things they regret, few own up to it.

I'm sure he does genuinely regret his comments, but the damage has been done.

Damage can be undone with an ON-AIR CORRECTION and APOLOGY.

He just went back on the air and apologized admitting that he was not knowledgeable about Student Bonfire.

Agree, Gabe just provided a great, heart-felt apology on air.

Guys, we all say things that we wish we could take back - that's just a part of life.

I can understand being upset, but what "damage" has been done exactly? Bonfire is SUPPOSED to be a party (when it burns) and when it was on campus, people prided themselves in getting as trashed as possible when it burned.

I didn't here Gabe's comment, but seriously doubt that anyone but pissed off Aggies will give it a 2nd thought.

Key words there : "when it burns."

You should repost this as a sticky on the football boards; you know, where most of the people that listen to sports radio hang out.

And yes, you really put your foot in it. Eight years of student bonfire and you gave them an undeserved black eye. I doubt you can apologize enough to those young people.

As far as what damage? You only get one chance to make a first impression and that was probably the first impression of student bonfire for a lot of Houston residents.

Wow Gabe.....I'm usually a live and let live kinda guy, but this was over the line.

Whether you knew or not, to insult your fellow Aggies, and everyone at Bonfire is an Aggie, like that on public radio is bad bull, period.

Sorry brother, but you sound like a bit of a jerk if you would go on public radio and do that. This was wrong, apology or no apology.
