In honor of this upcoming weekend, who gave your favorite, most memorable, or overall best performance at Chilifest?

I'm gonna say Willie for 3? years ago. He brought the place down. Also, CCR had a stellar performance from that year, but they are always great at Chilifest.

When did Credence play at Chilifest? I definitely would've made the drive for that.

sorry, not "CCR" as in my favorite band of all time Credence. I meant Cross Canadian Ragweed.

I think it was the year before that Cross was playing 2nd and about 5 minutes into their set the bottom falls out. I mean absolute monsoon. I don't even get this wet in the shower. To top that off huge lightning bolts were bouncing all around, easily less than a mile away.

They gave the ol "They want us to stop playing so we don't get electrocuted. F THAT" line and the place went nuts.

That was a pretty good one. They were lucky nobody died that day.

Waylon Jennings... Next question.

Merle Haggard played one year (2000 or so)...it was kind of slow because of the Hag's age, but it was still great seeing a legend play at such an amazing venue.

The next question should be "worst performer." I'd go with Mark Chestnut a few years back. He's not a bad guy and not a bad singer/performer, but I never thought he belonged at Chilifest.

I only went in 2004, but coming off of the release of Wave on Wave, Pat came out and didn't play a "new" song until like the 6th song of the set. Kept it simple, kept it old school. Played about 90 minutes.

Gary Allan's set in '03 was killer, then followed by Willie. Best two acts in a single year by far.

Two acts? Wow, looking at the history things sure have changed.

Last one I went to had the Bellamy Brothers as the only act. Now they've got multiple shows on multiple days?

Cross Canadian was really good in '03. They sucked in '04 - only played new stuff, and complained about having to play Carney Man or Boys from Oklahoma. Then said they didn't even bring a harmonica, so everyone would just have to imagine it. It was like playing at Chilifest was really beneath them.

And I agree about Pat in '04. He could've done the same thing as Cross, but I think he played every old song of his that you could want to hear.

Ragweed is rapidly becoming one of my least favorite Texas music bands along with pat and cory. Nothing against the guys in general I just don't care for their stuff anymore and I have been at a few of their concerts where they give off the pompous/arrogant vibe

Sammy Kershaw was great a few years ago...put on a great show.

Ended his show with "Red, White, and Blue" by Skynyrd.

Tons of cold beer, loads of half-naked beautiful women, and good music? Maybe an amazing EVENT is better terminology than an amazing VENUE, but either way, I'd take Chilifest over the AT&T Center or American Airlines Center anyday. Very similar to Willie Nelson's old Fourth of July Picnics in Luckenbach (minus all the pot) that I regretably only got to go to once. (And no, I didn't do any pot.)

I remember that Bellamy Brothers Chilifest from a few years ago...what was it, 1998 or 1999? I had a grand time, although like the other poster, only the pictures can prove it!

Who goes to Chilifest for the music?

I will be staying for Willie this year, but the best part of Chilifest is Friday night. Saturday is just a DUI waiting to happen. I usaully hangout for a few hours, eat some good BBQ and chili and then head home to beat the traffic and beat the drunks...

Just one man's opinion...
