Whoever said Ray Wylie Hubbard was a GREAT Texas music icon needs their head examined. This "Snake Farm" song has got to be the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Or, wait; maybe the dumbest is another RWH-penned gem - "Screw You We're From Texas." Gee, this was a hard song to write.

I will never listen to Lonestar 92.5 ever again. RWH is all that they ever play these days. Or maybe that's all that Dave Avery plays. Anyway, the other stations in this town seem to be jumping on the RWH bandwagon as well. "Dust Of The Chase" was the last good RWH song I remember.

I think Snake Farm is cool because it still sounds good even though hes going senile...

snake farm, it just sounds nasty. snake farm, it pretty much is. snake farm, its a reptile house. its a snake farm. ooooooooohohohhhohhhooooo.

i don't dislike the song, i'm just annoyed that 92.5 plays it all the damn time.

I love me some Snake Farm.

My 11 year-old sister does too. She had me make a CD for her and demanded that I include that song in with her Bowling for Soup, Kelly Clarkson, and Sean Paul selections.

The first time I stumbled across that song whilst the radio was on scan I thought it was an actual commercial, because I just happened to be on I35 near "Snake Farm".

RWH is horrible. I wasted 12 bucks on that crap last weekend.

Dave Avery is terrible about that. He'll find one song that he likes (and ONLY he likes) and will play it over and over and over. It really gets old...

I think the "jazzed up" version of Racecar Joe is the next "Snake Farm."

Are you kidding me?

The official anthem of 92.5 is "My Baby Loves Me When I'm Stoned." HORRIBLE. That's why I quit listening to them.

That's another good one, Barney. It's like they don't realize that Jason Boland has other songs (as bad as they may be). Amazing.

It all started with that damned Ed Burleson "dead skunk" song and went downhill from there.

Please tell me you made that up... if not, I think I'm gonna be sick.

Unfortunately, no. It's an abortion, to say the least. Not sure who the performer is. Why don't people understand that Adam Carroll is about the songwriting, not the performance?

The whole Texas Country thing has gotten out of hand, and gone downhill. I knew it was starting to suck when Bleu Edmondson started getting even LIMITED radio airplay. Other notable nails in the TX Country coffin:

Mike McClure left the Great Divide
Roger Creager's second CD was released
Cooder Graw loses Joe (drums) and Jimmy Uhrl (steel)
Pat Green quit doing what he did well and went Nashville
Cory Morrow got a full-time female back-up singer
Jack Ingram - "Wherever You Are"
Kevin Fowler developed a white trash following

...am I leaving anything out?

Emeril, I don't read many of your posts, but that is a horrible misuse of the word 'abortion'. I think you meant 'abomination'.......... einstein.

Maybe I'm wrong, though. I could be misspoken.

Ray Wylie Hubbard does suck! Everyone (including current tx country artists) make him out to be some legend. His music sucks! Just like David Allan Coe. No legend, but somehow everyone has made him out to be one.

Actually, Philo, if what he says is true, abortion would probably be the appropriate word to describe it.

Have you heard the song, Einstein? It's terrible. "Abortion" is the only way to describe it. Whoever the "artist" is has taken something that has meaning and thought and turned it into a bloody pulp of what it once was. The guy has taken a musical coathanger and destroyed what was once something beautiful and made it warm mass, left oozing into the drain on the stuido floor.

Emeril -

The jazzed up version is actually Slaid Cleaves. He put out a cover album called "Unsung" recently in which he did his favorite songs by other songwriters.

I love Slaid Cleaves. However, I hate the Racecar Joe cover. A lot.

That's crazy. I'm somewhat of a Slaid fan, but this is bad. With his particular style, I'd guess that he'd be one of the last ones to want to tinker with another guy's work.

Yep, I was surprised that he'd do a cover album, though he has had a few covers on prior records. I was even more surprised at the horrible job done on Racecar Joe.

I work in the oilfield. I have known many Racecar Joes. Adam Carroll's original version captures their vibe. The new song couldn't be further from it.

Anyone seen RWH live? It gives you a whole different perspective about what he does. He is a storyteller, and his shows are golden.

Plus, he has Seth James playing guitar with him on the road these days, and that in itself is worth going.

The reason so many Texas Music Artists love Ray is because he and his wife freaking rock.

They help these guys in all sorts of ways, and they mentor many young artists along the way.

Ray is an awesome guy, and THAT is why people repsect him so much. He is unique, and there are some wonderful stories behind his songs. The songs out of context sometimes seem simple or pointless, but the backstory too them is what makes them so cool.

I'd give him a chance live before being too critical.

Oh..and Hey Barney! Long time no see Brutha!

Now all yall come out to The Hall of Fame on Nov 10th and catch Aaron Watson and Darren kozelsky!

Enough said - you owe it to yourself to see him live.

CTP93 is correct. The guy puts on one helluva show. I've seen him at Gruene a couple of times. We'd go to see Seth James and RWH would come out mid-set and they'd jam for a while. I used to not "get" his stuff, but it's really growing on me.

You must be sober when you hear this song, it's greatness after a sixer.
