the best exchanges not mentioned

quote:
Ike Clanton: What is that Holiday? Twelve hands in a row? Ain't nobody that lucky.

Doc Holliday: Why Ike, whatever do you mean? Maybe poker's just not your game. I know! Let's have a spelling contest!

quote:
Billy Clanton: Why, it's the drunk piano player. You're so drunk, you can't hit nothin'. In fact, you're probably seeing double.

Doc Holliday: I have two guns, one for each of ya.

Orlando, you bring up a good point. As for as factual accuracy, I'm not sure how good the movie was, and like you, I'm not a fan of Wyatt Earp as a human being. I'll just say this--had Val Kilmer not put on such a maginificent turn as Doc Holliday in that movie, many of us would probably just see it as a mediocre Western about a sorry S.O.B. of a person (Wyatt).

Thank you, Val.

Doc: Five hundred. Must be a peach of a hand. Oh, thank you Darlin'. Kate, you're not wearing a bustle. How lewd.

Ed: Come on, Holliday. You in or out, God dammit?

Doc: Why, Ed Bailey, you look like you're just about ready to burst.

Ed: Come on! Come on, show.

Doc: Well, I suppose I'm deranged, but I guess I'll just have to call. Cover your ears darlin'.

Doc: Isn't that a daisy?

Ed: Shut up. Take your money and get out, cause I'm tired of listening to your mouth.

Doc: Why, Ed Bailey, we cross? (whips out guns)

Ed: Them guns don't scare me. Without them guns, you ain't nothing but a skinny lunger.

Doc: Ed, what an ugly thing to say. I abhor ugliness. Does this mean we're not friends anymore? You know, Ed, if I thought you weren't my friend, I just don't think I could bear it.

(spins guns down on the table)

Doc: There. Now we can be friends again.

From IMDB.com--

quote:
Wyatt Earp: [to Ringo] He's drunk.

Doc Holliday: In vino veritas.
[In wine is truth. - Meaning - "When I'm drinking, I speak my mind."]

Johnny Ringo: Age quod agis.
[Do what you do. - Meaning - "Do what you do best."]

Doc Holliday: Credat Judaeus apella.
[The Jew Apella may believe it, not I. - Meaning, "Oh I don't believe drinking is what I do best."]

Johnny Ringo: [pats his gun] Ecentus stultorum magister.
[Events are the teachers of fools. - Meaning - "Fools have to learn by experience."]

Doc Holliday: [gives a Cheshire cat smile] In pace requiescat.
[Rest In Peace - Meaning - "It's Your Funeral!"]

Tombstone Marshal Fred White: Come on now. We don't want any trouble in here. Not in any language.

Doc Holliday: Evidently Mr. Ringo's an educated man. Now I really hate him.

Curly Bill: "What'd that Messican mean a sick horse's gonna get us?"
Wyatt: "I don't think I'm gonna let you arrest us today, Beehan."
Doc: "That's Latin darlin'. Evidently Mr. Ringo is an educated man. Now I really hate him."
Doc: "You know, Frederick ****ing Chopin."

I'm not sure which character it was, but he had an exchange with Wyatt outside the jail.

Cowboy: Why don't you watch where you're goin?
Wyatt: Take it easy kid, I'm sorry.
Cowboy: I ain't easy, and I ain't your kid. You take sorry and shove it up your a$$.

I bought the director's cut DVD at Hastings this evening, and just got done watching Tombstone from start to finish for the first time in several years. Even though I've been discussing it on this thread and quoting it regularly, I had forgotten just how great of a movie it is from top to bottom. Granted it may not have been entirely accurate from a historical standpoint, but it's a movie, not a documentary.

I hadn't realized before just how deep the cast is, not just the stars like Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer, Bill Paxton, and Sam Elliott (who's one of my favorite all-time Western actors), but also the character actors like Powers Boothe, Terry O'Quinn, Buck Taylor, Harry Carey Jr., and and Thomas Haden Church, as well as the bit parts by Billy Bob Thornton, Jason Priestley, and Charlton Heston. There's not many movies that have a cast like like that.

Just a few other comments:
1) I want to punch Sheriff Behan in the face every time I see him. It's embarrassing that a pansy like that got elected to a law enforcement position.
2) Ike Clanton was about the wussiest outlaw that ever lived. At least Billy and the rest of the Cowboys went down fighting, and didn't start blubbering and weasel out of getting shot everytime something happened.
3) Like Orlando mentioned, Wyatt wasn't the finest, most upstanding human being around, and I think the way he treated Maddie was poor, even if she was a drug addict.
3) Val Kilmer's portrayal of Doc could never get enough accolades, as it is one of the greatest acting performances of all time. I never tire of watching Doc spouting off drunken philosophy, irritating Johnny Ringo, and looking like he's about to kick the bucket, sometimes all at the same time.

How was this performance not brought up at Oscar time? It was perhaps the best performance I have ever seen on screen.
