Seven minutes and looks somewhat big budget for a music video.... Well done. It could have been over the top but it wasen't.

ahhhh, VH1 is where they play videos.

seriously, Green Day made a great album, but the radio (even satellite) has run it into the ground.

Great song. Great video. And for you guitar folks, really, really easy to play.

No. I mentioned above it could have been over the top. Green Day is anti-war/bush but thankfully while the guy goes to Iraq it takes a neutral stance and concentrates on the guy/girl relationship.

Because Armstrong has shown a lot of versatility and virtuosity in the other Greenday soongs, right?

Do you really have to be an a****** every time you post? Is it really necessary? You act like I said Armstong was the greates guitarist in the world. There is really nothing worse than a music snob that thinks he knows everything.

This is my favorite song off of American Idiot and I think the video was done really well. They're currently working on the Jesus of Suburbia video, and yes, it will cover all 9 minutes of the song.

American Idiot is by far and away the best album released last year, it's just going to take time for it get better and people have a pre-conceived notion that everything Green Day = crap. Any skeptics need to listen to the entire album and give a thoughtful reason on why it's not stellar.

Ray Charles winning the Grammy last year was a complete joke. I hate it when they give awards to guys just cus they died. Green Day deserved that award, or at least Kanye, but Ray Charles was a joke of a win.

I saw the opening show of the Green Day/JEW tour Wed night in Chicago. It was by far the best arena rock show I have ever been to. It was well worth the money and highly recommend everyone to buy a ticket.

i admit i have only heard the album in it's entirety maybe a couple of times, but to me it doesn't seem THAT great. sure, it's good for green day, but at the end of the day it's still just kind of the same ol' trite musical ideas, IMO.

Totally disagree. Im not the biggest green day fan ever, but the new cd is very impressive. It so far removed from the old stuff you've heard before - When I Come Around, Basket Case, et. They had 7 guys playing instraments on stage the other night. There was trumpets, trombones, accordians, all kinds of stuff going on. They are no longer a typical 3-piece punk band. They are legit rock stars now.

BTW - American Idiot is truely a cd you can listen to from beginning to end and never skip a song. Not many bands can say that about any of their albums.

i guess to me it's just funny that people fawn all over them just because it's green day. it's like when the D student finally gets a B+ and everyone pats them on the back.... meanwhile there's still plenty of kids that have been getting straight A's all along.

Riiiight. Not too many bands around that won a Grammy on their 16th year of existance AFTER selling over 8M records on their major label debut.

Green Day is just starting to hit their stride.

Aah, yes. Grammies and albums sales: the true rubric by which good musuic should be judged.

My problem with Greenday isn't that they're mindless pop. All power to them. if they want to appeal to the lowest common denominator with leftist lyrics and simplistic song structures, that's their prerogative.

I know I listened to Dookie a lot back in the day when I was just learning to play guitar. But about the time I turned 14, I realized that Armstrong has the most grating, soulless voice of almost anyone in the post-punk momvement.

It's not just that, though. It's this album.

Any time a group of musicians takes it upon themselves to use their fame as a soapbox to proselytize from, it just grates on my last nerve. It was crap when Tool did it, it's crap when Greenday does it, when Jurassic 5 does it, hell, I even tune it out when bands like Trivium and Megadeth do it.

Now I get it. You probably hate Pearl Jam, DMB, Bruce, Mellencamp, REM, and Dylan too.

Why stop there - you probably don't watch too many movies either.

Its called entertainment. You don't have to take everything so seriously you know. Chill.

REM

Check.

Most of those have more to do with sucking than political commentary. Except REM, which is a combination of the two in more or less equal proportions.

You can add to that list Streisand, U2, The Dixie Chicks and alitany of others who try to come across as political masterminds but fail miserably.

EDIT: Also anything by Maynard James Keenan.

Seriously, have you listened to the album? I'd like to hear some constructive criticism of the record and not just the sheepish "they're leftist" babble.

You say that, but you're currently using the only form you have to communicate with masses, posting on texags, to voice your opinion. I'm not singling you out, but it's a showing of hypocrisy on these boards. Just because someone's famous doesn't force them to waive their opinions. You won't complain about the drivel coming out of Toby Keith's mouth, maybe because it assimilates your views. In fact, I find that more offensive because his little patriotic streak was a direct attempt to capitalize off of a national tragedy. Had he donated proceeds of his record sales to the families of 9/11 or even any charity, I'd be singing a different tune. But no, all of that, along with his Ford spokesperson deal "That's all I dra-heeeeeeve" all went into his greedy little pockets.

Some people make me sick when they can't listen to something because they honestly can't listen to someone else's opinion without having their's threatened.

Ditka,
Somehow you got into this ilk that things have to be complicated to be good. That is, by far, the biggest misconception among self proclaimed musical experts. I was thinking that you are the least fit person to write about sports or music, but then it occurred to me: you're no different than every other Monday morning QB sports writer and every music critic who says everything sucks. You decided at some point that your opinion is the only one out there worth anything, just like a critic, and that anyone who disagrees just likes pop crap with no appeal. The fact of the matter is that if you had so much knowledge of what goes into a hit, you would have written your own by now. Instead, you're left to rag on successfull bands and ride Zakk's d*** like it contains the secret to eternal life. You don't know what makes a song good any more than anybody else. You like what you like. The difference is that only a self involved a****** thinks that it is his duty to tell everyone else that they are too stupid to see it their way. The fact that people b**** at you about this almost every time you post should tell you something, but I'm sure that to you it is just an indication that you must continue on. Let it go.

Nothing, really. In fact, it was one of my favorites. Until I turned 14. Then i sold it, bought Megdeth's Youthanasia and never looked back.

1. I hardly worship them. They were just my gateway into metal bands other than Metallica and Pantera.

2. It's Megadeth.

Wrong. You'll start a thread about a band I don't like, I will mention that I don't like them in it, and everyone who is apparently insecure in their musical tastes will get sand all in their vaginas so deep they'll start producing pearls.
