I'm listening to the White Album right now. I would have to say it's a tie for me between this and Abbey Road.

That's pretty much what I would say, with a lean toward the White Album.

Funny, if you really know music, you still get amazed by listening to this band. And the reason they still sound relevant is because all the good bands, in some way, have some Beatles in them. Same reason I Love Lucy is still funny, even though it's old as the hills. There's a lot of Lucy in Seinfield and Raymond episodes.

Back to the Beatles, I think they'll still sound good 50 years from now. There's no doubt.

I think anyone that is just starting to get into The Beatles should start with The White Album.

I like to pop in Rubber Soul every once in a while. The White Album is greatness, too

Revolver

I also like the early albums -- Please, Please Me; Meet the Beatles and Beatles for Sale.

But if I could only have one CD, it'd be Revolver.

Rubber Soul is one of my faves, although I will never complain when listening to Revolver, The White Album, or Sgt. Pepper.

The White Album is the only album that actually has a few throw-away songs (Honey Pie, Piggies, Revolution # 9). That is what is amazing - every other album has songs that were hits, or could've been hits on every track.
Favorites - Side 2 of Abbey Road/ Sgt Pepper (duh!)/ Revolver/ Hard Day's Night/ Help

Even more amazing - these guys really started recording in '62 and ended in 69/70. That's like a group coming around in 97, breaking up in 05 and having that much bankable material - it is unmatched.

If I say One, is that a cop out?

The White Album has some filler because of the double album format. But Happiness is a Warm Gun makes up for Revolution #9.

Rubber Soul or Revolver. Both are absolutely amazing. Magical Mystery Tour and Sgt. Pepper both come close.

I don't think One is cop out at all. That one is always in my changer because my kids like it so well.

Abbey Road. Sgt Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour are both good, but damn, Abbey Road might be the best album ever.

If you are going to throw "One" out there, then how about the red and Blue albums?

I've always hoped they released a follow up to "Ones" and called it "Twos" (Elvis did that) or Top Tens or Top 40's. So many great Beatle songs are not on "Ones" - dare I name a few -
The Night Before
Tell Me Why
Nowhere Man
I'm a loser
Gonna lose that Girl
I've just seen a face
Love You to
Good Day Sunshine
For No One
If I Needed Someone
Two of Us
Fixing a Hole
Good Morning
Mother Nature's Son
Blackbird
...I could go on and on and on...

Mine would have to be "Abbey Road".

I find myself skipping certain songs on the "White Album" such as Piggies. I love Happines is a Warm Gun, Dear Prudence, and Blackbird.

There is not one bad song on Abbey Road, IMHO.

Abbey Road is my favorite album of all time.

Tough to go wrong with the CDs mentioned frequently above (Rubber Soul, Revolver, SPLHCB, Abbey Road, White Album, One). Just different gradations and styles of greatness.

My personal fave is truly an "album" that was never made into a CD. Back in the day, I had a cassette entitled "Hey Jude" with this playlist:
Can't Buy Me Love
I Should've Known Better
Paperback Writer (on most days, my fave Beatles song)
Lady Madona
Hey Jude
Old Brown Shoe
Don't Let Me Down
Rain
The Balad of John and Yoko
Revolution

That's my favorite.

Close to that list is "Beatles: Past Masters Vol II", consisting of
Day Tripper
We Can Work It Out
Paperback Writer
Rain
Lady Madonna
The Inner Light
Hey Jude
Revolution
Get Back
Don't Let Me Down
The Balad of John And Yoko
Old Brown Shoe
Across The Universe
Let It Be
You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)

Big Al, great list. There were a lot of great songs that just never made it radio. You picked a couple from Help that didn't make that were terrific. I Need You was another. It was their best accoustical album, a couple of songs notwithstanding. I'd aslo throw some other oldies like No Reply, Not Second Time, Don't Bother Me, Thank You Girl and Baby's in Black. Too many to mention.

Revolver's my favorite. Sgt pepper I think was THE album back in the day, but songwise it hasn't held up like Revolver.

Mostly though, I listen to a ton of Beatles bootlegs. There's so much great stuff that Anthology never touched on.
