A comment on the Hendrix thread got me thinking about gay musicians and whether or not their sexual orientation changes your view of their music. I grew up in a very conservative household, but have become more accepting as I've grown older. I've got gay friends and it really doesn't bother me in general (I will admit that I don't care to see gay guys displaying affection towards one another, though). If Jimi Hendrix were gay, would it change my opinion of him? I don't think so. But Pete Townshend and Rob Halford coming out kind of bothered me. Maybe I'm just not as big a fan of their music. I love Queen and I like Elton John too, so Freddie & Elton being gay doesn't bother me. Maybe it's because they were open about it where the other two listed here kept it quiet. Then again, if it came out that Prince was a switch hitter it wouldn't bother me at all. I guess I'm just confused...but not THAT confused. Your thoughts?

I just raised the question because if you liked Jimi's music your whole life, then found out 30+ years after his death that he ****ed guys, why would your opinion of his music change?

I guess I'd raise the same question about Townsend or Halford. Why does it matter?

As for Dave Matthews, 75% of his songs are about how much he loves to **** women, so he is either overcompensating or he is extremely heterosexual.

I knew from history that Hendrix bonked ever girl he could.

I am still trying to figure out how he left so dam* many hours of studio tape in 4 years and SRV did not leave us sh*t in 10+ years.

The guy must have spent every waking hour in the studio recording, bonking girls and doing drugs...all with the tape running...

To answer your question, I still like Judas Priest and Elton John, I am just a little more suspicious of songs like "Turbo Lover" more now than I was.

I was pretty shocked when I heard about Doug Pinnick. I'm still a King's X fan, though.

I've never heard that Pete Townsend is gay. I'm not a huge fan so I wouldn't much care if he was. If one of my favorites were to admit they were gay, I guess it would change my opinions. I'm not sure why - I guess I would start questioning who the songs were written about.

I can't remember the guy's name, but back in the mid 90's some up and coming country guy had a gay affair on his wife. It was a big deal at the time. I haven't heard anything out of the guy since, but I don't listen to new country anymore, either.

Can't remember his name, but I'm sure you'd recognise it. He had a couple hits.
