I just saw a trailer for this movie. Anyone heard anything good about this?

i haven't heard anything, but i have seen the trailer and it looks potentially good.

There was a recent book (last year?) called Ghost Soldiers, about a 1944 or 1945 raid to free Bataan Death March POWs from a Japanese prison camp in the Phillipines. Great book.

I believe that there are two movies being made about it. One is directed by Steven Spielberg with Tom Cruise. It may be called Ghost Soldiers. The Great Raid is the other movie. One of the two movies is supposed to be told from the standpoint of a Filipino woman who smuggled life-saving supplies to the prisoners.

Hopefully each movie will do the story justice.

It was advertised during the premiere of "Over There" the other night on FX. It opens On August 12 I think they said, long delay between first announced release and actual release does not bode well, but I am hopeful.

The Great Raid is based on the book of the same name.

Spielberg's movie based on Ghost Soldiers was scrapped because of this movie, and Miramax bought the rights to Ghost Soldiers from Dreamworks so they could use the popularity of the book in marketing The Great Raid.
