I don't want this to turn into a flame-U2 thread, but does anyone else find it interesting in the least that Rush hasn't been inducted yet and U2 is going to be??? Sorry for the double post...

or that Buddy Guy was elected and no SRV...

I love Buddy Guy but come on.

It is waaaaay past time for SRV...

Rush deserves to go, as does U2. I don't see why U2 going before Rush is noteworthy, but I hope Rush is inducted very soon.

Good point about SRV.

Probably due to U2 having more mainstream appeal than Rush. When was the last time you heard a Rush tune on a top 40 radio station.

That shouldn't matter, but I bet it does when they look at potential inductees.

LOCO- When was "Texas Flood" released? You are not eligible until 25 years after your first release. Other notable omissions: Black Sabbath, Ozzy, VAN F'ING HALEN!

jwag- Wouldn't your arguement be stronger if you used the Pretenders instead of U2? The Pretenders put out two great albums but really were a non factor on the charts and on the developement of rock 'n roll. I love the albums The Pretenders and Learning to Crawl but other bands are more desevering.

Critics seem not to like Rush much so that might be the reason Rush isn't getting a nod.

U2 is the biggest band in the world, and has been for the better part of two decades.

Ask you average man on the street between the ages of 15 and 50 and they can probably name a U2 song or two. They'd be hard-pressed to do the same for Rush.

Oh, and they can several Traffic songs though. C'mon, the fact that Rush is not in is joke. I don't like Skynerd, but they were very infuential throughout the south to many bands. And you want to talk influence, where's Van Halen. You think there were a few guitarist infulenced by EVH? Any frontmen influenced by DLR?

The whole thing is basically ran by Jann Wenner, who is a music snob. Van Halen and Rush have several Platinum albums to their credit, but when was the last time you saw them on the cover of Rolling Stone, much less an inside article? And don't even get me started on Sabbath. I guess they didn't have any influence either. But guess what...Jefferson Airplane must have, because they got in back in '96. And doesn't everybody luuuvve the Airplane. You hear them all the time, dont'cha?

SRV is eligible in 2008 on the "25 year Rule" but I thought there was an early in following a death. I must be wrong. I have been unable to find an exception...

Van Halen was eligible in 2003...

The Original Alice Cooper lineup should be in, they became eligible in 1995...

Steppenwolf in 1992...

Black Sabbath in 1995...

Todd Rundgren, the guy is an absolute musical genius and has been eligible since 1996...

Lynyrd Skynyrd eligible in 1998...

For the life of me I cannot see how these two have not been admitted...

Patsy Cline eligible since 1983...

Hank Williams eligible since 1983...

Sad thing is, I could name more songs by Rush than U2 off the top of my head. The onyl U2 song worth listening to is Sunday Bloody Sunday (is that the title?)

I can name almost the entire U2 discography. Off the top of my head I can think of 3 Rush songs.

U2 is one of my favorite groups but doesn't even come close to my all time favorite...Rush. It's all a matter of personal taste.

Haha...I can name every Rush album, the year it was released, and most of the songs on each album. On some albums I could probably name every song, in order. (Yes, I'm a Rush geek)

As far as the RRHOF, I would like to hear the thoughts from the nominating committee. How The Pretenders can get in with 2 albums and Rush can't get in with 17 studio and 5 live albums puzzles me. I know Rush is a love 'em or hate 'em group....obviously the committee hates them, but there are plenty of current musicians who list Rush as a major inspiration. Rush also probably has the most loyal fan base of anyone out there. That doesn't count?

I would think sheer numbers is the answer. The vast majority of people in the world couldn't even name a Rush song if they were at gunpoint. Granted, I have listened to them too much, but I am very knowledgable on music and don't know much of anyone that praises them like some of the people on here do.

Silly question, but when was the last time Rush had any radio airplay for a new song?

Could Rush sell out a 100k venue in Europe and fill up any venue in the US as well?

This is exactly what I didn't want this thread to become...I have no problem with U2 getting in, I just don't see why the crap Rush isn't in there.

Oh yeah, Keegan, I though I heard 'One Little Victory' on the radio

Last radio song I can remember from Rush was Subdivision. I was a fan when I used to play drums, but when I heard rapping on Roll the Bones, it kind of ended it for me.

I totally agree Rush and Van Halen should be in the Hall. Especially considering Percy Sledge made it in - one good song - can you name another?? ... and they are Hall worthy??

Looking forward to the induction ceremony on VH1 this weekend - word is U2 rocked the house.

I think they are allowing a cooling off period until the next time EVH and DLR are getting along, then Van Halen will get inducted and maybe we will finally get to see that long-awaited on-stage reunion.
