Breedlove is probably my favorite TX band ever. I used to love watching their shows in the late 90's. I only have their one CD. Are they any others out there?

So what, Dan gave up the modeling?

I think my favorite song was Peregrine. Echoes...you know the chords/tabs for that one??

I used to sit around and chord all those songs back in the day (from Reach Out). That CD is out of print and mine won't play anymore, due to overuse and such. I can't find another one or I'd buy it instantly. Great stuff. As far as that goes I'll see if I can find an MP3 of "Peregrine". If so I can chord it again I believe pretty quickly.

Dan is modeling, but he also just came out with a solo CD, ...of What Lies Beneath which was produced by Lenny Kravitz I believe. Kravitz signed Dan early on. Problem is, Lenny's got his "new sound" all OVER this album. Very annoying really. A few good songs, but overall I find it very wussy, predictable, and full of fluff. Does not even come close to the soul found on Breedlove's recordings. Just my opinion, I'm sure others may like it.

Yeah, I'm a fan too.

I just got the new Dan CD. It's got some good songs and he voice is great, but I agree that it's not as good as Breedlove.

I personally like his voice in a more bluesy setting like Breedlove. His solo CD is very poppy. I'm sure that's Lenny's influence.

My brother-in-law is in a band in Dallas and knows Dan faily well and his band opened for Dan a few weeks ago.

The story is that dan wrote the songs and came down to Austin and made it with some of his favorite musicians from Austin. He then took it to Lenny and Lenny said good, but I want to rework it. In the liner notes of the CD Lenny plays almost every instrument of the entire album. When I first started listening to Lenny, I thought that was cool, but now it appears Lenny is quite the megalomaniac and his music is suffering for it.

Overall, it's good to hear Dan again and there are a couple of "radio hits" on the CD, but it's not Breedlove.

That is too bad. I'd really like to hear a sound like that again.

For those of you that are interested:

I went and saw Dan last Thursday at the Gypsy Tea Room in Dallas. It was awesome. I've always appreciated perfomers that play their live stuff as close as possible to their recorded stuff, and with the exception of some guitar solos at the end of a couple of songs, Dan does exactly that. He basically played the entire cd (Of What Lies Beneath) along with a couple of new songs and one Breedlove tune (Waste Away Boy).

He's playing this Thursday and the next at the same place, and the cover is only $5. Those of you in the metroplex should check it out.
