And since you seem to have missed it, what people are saying is "quit getting stupidly upset about things before you actually know what's in them".

It's ok to read interviews, watch previews, and draw informed conclusions to post on this thread. Stop policing opinions you don't like.

I'm not policing anything, folks are welcome to post whatever thoughts they like. And others of us are welcome to say it's dumb for passing judgement on things they haven't seen.
I've also yet to actually see someone produce a quote from her that indicates she's going to do something negative with this film, quite the opposite actually. Seems like a lot of projection.

Just wait until the movie comes out before you start *****ing and moaning. That's all anyone is asking. For instance, just because a woman is voicing Aslan doesn't mean Aslan won't sound male. You have no idea what Gerwig has planned in that regard and so many others. Yet you guys act as if you do, and then ***** endlessly about your assumptions, as if they've been confirmed as fact. Just… chill.

Is Azlan a ghetto lion from the hood?

Your position is absurd. A woman for Aslan's voice is case in point. A lot of this is explicitly allegorical. It's a change to fit her own belief system, which many who love the books would regard as negative. You act as if you personally not regarding it as negative means you can be dismissive of others can call them dumb.
She was raised Unitarian (if I recall correctly) and has all sorts of beliefs the allegory refutes and Lewis would reject. She's claimed to have read the books that influenced him (sure she did, I'm sure she waded through The Consolation of Philosophy by Boethius in addition to Macdonald). What you don't get is that the book's name isn't an empty vessel you can put your own story into. It comes from another mind with its own ideas. When you tell a different story we're literally playing out The Last Battle with an monkey wearing the lion skin pretending to be Aslan (just a tad bit ironic I suppose for this movie, given how the other animals defended the monkey instead of recognizing it as false).
Edit: blew my spelling was on Boethius and Macdonald. Touche!

"What I don't get" as someone who grew up reading the books, thanks for explaining that to me. It's wild how condescending some of y'all are while you act like you're the one being offended.
I understand that people may expect different things from this than what she'll deliver, that's what happens when art is interpreted. But I'm willing to wait to judge things that might sound odd, like Streep's voice, until I see how it's being handled.
We don't yet know what story she's going to tell or how it might diverge, but despite the fact that she's said a lot of things that appear she's trying to do right by the story some of you want to assign questionable intent to her because of whatever reason. And that's fine, knock yourself out. I will continue to say I think it's dumb to judge it before we've seen it.

No opinions allowed unless they're posted from Twitter I suppose?

Well, since she's using the name and characters, I would hope it's the one actually in the book...I don't know why we think it's ok to "tell a story" when there already is one...

Should have hired Elizabeth Holmes to voice Aslan.

Told a different story than the books, turned out to be decent films.

My guess would be she wants a voice that can sound like both, thus elevating it beyond male or female. Meryl Streep has a fairly deep voice for a woman.
I also feel like this is being massively overblown, as usual. because Aslan isn't exactly hosting a talk show in the book, he doesn't show up until the last third of it. If I remember correctly, he also sings when he creates Narnia.

The statement - we don't know what they'll actually do with her voice as Aslan - is curious. You have cast a very well known Oscar winner (I think she's won) to be the voice of a literary character known to be male from the 7 books he appears in. Then you're going to do some audio effects on her voice to ... do what? Obviously we don't know yet, but if it's to give it more of a masculine tone, then why not just cast a dude to do the voice? It's not like there are not plenty of male actors who could provide the voice (I mean, Liam Neeson is still alive). This is what sets off my politically motivated, anti-Christian radar.
