I'm totally in agreement with both of you. The writing doesn't present some big mystery with a bunch of twists in a poor imitation of good writing. Its strong enough that we had a pretty good idea of the overall arc of the story from probably episode two or three, but the fun and enjoyment was watching how they got there. To be more specific, watching how they moved Eddie from where he was in episode one to where he was in the last episode. They did such a good job with Eddie that it was believable to watch him get to where he ended up in the last episode, and yes the writing also left enough mystery that we were wondering just how sincere his feelings in marriage to the countess was. (I too honestly thought at first he might be part of her plane bombing) I think you can make a strong argument that it was a mix - he definitely had feelings for her, but those feelings were elevated by his business interests.

And God, I love Vinnie Jones' character. Geoff is just badass.

Curious how Susie Glass is going to be handled in Season 3.

Bobby Glass seemingly doesnt know about her getting involved in Heroin*. That seems like a much bigger deal than Eddie pivoting to legal weed.

I would actually be surprised if he isn't aware of it. She is using his goons and her brother helped her out of a sticky situation with the boyfriend. He already ratted Susie/Eddie out once I think dad might just be lettting the cocaine thing ride or they have a big row about it early next season.

Really liked this season but I'll disagree with some of the previous posts regarding Eddie's decent. His deep love and marriage to the countess felt a bit too random or forced to me. I too was wondering if it was genuine as opposed to a play for power, which I think points to the lack of believability there. This caused her death to be too obvious of a plot device for his character to me.

Again great show and solid season, this was my only real minor complaint.

Incredible show. Excited for season 3 and I assume it will be more about Eddie making the $100 million, Susie and the coke, and a new villain or drug dealer.

he loved her the moment he saw her at the tower shoot. It was plainly obvious.

Spoilers Ahead: Eddie's character arc is similar to Michael Corleon's The Godfather. One murdered his brother on a boat and one forced his brother to cut off a man's head with a chainsaw.

Eddie is now crazier than his brother.

But we still like him.

Episode 7 stole the show.

It was plainly obvious he was into her. This isn't a Disney princess show, think a "love at first sight" angle would be weird.

Best show I've watched all year. Loved the part where the girls ran over the assassin soldier multiple times.

This show reminds me James Bond, but he's a drug lord.

Very much looking forward to season 3.

It makes complete sense he'd be in love with her.

This entire series is about Eddie going from spare son to ambitious aristocratic drug kingpin. He started out doing what needed to be done to save the estate and his brother, but along the way he found a knack for being a drug entrepreneur. This season is all about his ambition taking hold, and he's not just doing what needs to be done to preserve, he's trying to expand. He wants the wealth, estate, and prestige the family has lost, and he's working to do anything to get it.

Bella is a part of that vision. Not only is she a gorgeous and refined Italian woman, she's basically a fabulously wealthy mob princess with a title. It doesn't get any better for a man in Eddie's shoes. He wants her because she completes his vision of the future that is immediately established in the first episode. It would be impossible for him not to fall in love with her.

For a while, I thought she might have been the informant to Bobby Glass, about Eddie...and the reason he was beaten.

I was almost expecting a surprise at the wedding, since he had them all there in one place. But turns how he really loved her. Plus, it was obviously a strategic alignment between the families.

Remind me...did we find out who killed her? I can't remember.

Honestly, I can't understand how Freddy thought that would work out. Your infant nephew goes missing, your brother gets blown up, and you walk back into the family to open arms to take over its criminal empire?

Also, Gospel John... You think the Italians aren't going to retaliate? It wouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who all was responsible, and Freddy sure isn't going to be reliable.

Everyone seemed fairly clueless until his mom keyed him in on the phone conversation she had with Freddy.

I loved season 1 but for whatever reason, I couldn't get into this season. I quit after the 2nd episode.

Yeah, you might want to give it another go. Last 3 episodes were pure nails.

Freddy wasn't on the radar because Eddie didn't die. I think if he had, the kidnapping immediately afterward would've been a dead giveaway since it would've been pointless with Eddie dead.

Nah, it's all good. I've already read through this thread.

I have a policy that if a show doesn't keep me engaged after two episodes (doesn't matter what season), I will not waste my time on it.

That may be the most wild system of watching tv ever.

I don't think I would ever finish a full series by that criteria because many shows lull at the beginning of a season.

Just finished season 2. Last 3 episodes were great and overall the second season was very enjoyable.

However, i did not care for season 1. Only stuck with it because my wife told me to.

Then you must of not really liked season 1 then. Because season 2 was better.

There have been a few times I tried to get into a series and I just wasn't in the mood for that type of series at the time. Then at some later point in time I would re-start watching it and was thankful I had the self introspection to realize it was me that was the problem, not the show.

Sometimes I can't get into a series when it is released weekly (or even slower) and I find I can't get into it like that. So in those cases I'll wait until they have all been released and then binge watch them. Sometimes just waiting for the first few episodes is enough. This is especially true when the first episode or two involve a lot of character building, etc that might not immediately grab my attention but end up being important in the long run.

That sucks. Season 2 turned this into a top ten show of all time for me. I just hope season three gets even more wheels off

I just read that the actor, Daniel Ings, who plays Freddie, will not be returning for season three because he feels like freddie's character arc is complete.

That sux, because I feel like there'd be lots for his character to do, either alongside or against Eddie.

I feel like having him try to **** over Eddie 3 seasons in a row gets a little old though. I can't ever imagine him truly being on Eddies side or for Eddie to ever give him one ounce of trust. He didn't kill him but he damn sure didn't forgive him. Will basically be in exile from the family so the actor isn't wrong.
