I'm totally in agreement with both of you. The writing doesn't present some big mystery with a bunch of twists in a poor imitation of good writing. Its strong enough that we had a pretty good idea of the overall arc of the story from probably episode two or three, but the fun and enjoyment was watching how they got there. To be more specific, watching how they moved Eddie from where he was in episode one to where he was in the last episode. They did such a good job with Eddie that it was believable to watch him get to where he ended up in the last episode, and yes the writing also left enough mystery that we were wondering just how sincere his feelings in marriage to the countess was. (I too honestly thought at first he might be part of her plane bombing) I think you can make a strong argument that it was a mix - he definitely had feelings for her, but those feelings were elevated by his business interests.
And God, I love Vinnie Jones' character. Geoff is just badass.
