Legend.

One of the kindest and greatest ambassadors for country music there ever was.

She did it her way. And still managed to keep her faith and integrity with friends from all parts of the spectrum.

One of the last true legends of country music. Very sad!
You're from down South,
And when you open your mouth,
You always seem to put your foot there.

I can't listen to Coat of Many Colors without my allergies acting up.

(copying my post from the Celebrity Death Watch thread)

Y'all I am devastated.

As a child, her music was the soundtrack of my life. Whether it was road trips with my family or Christmas time, her music was always there.

As an adult she did so much for my wife and I. A little over 10 years ago my wife wrote a little book about a fat girl in Texas who decided to join a beauty pageant. The main character was obsessed with Dolly's music and it featured heavily in the book. While her first book did ok, Dumplin' took off. It debuted at #1 on the NYT Bestseller list and really changed the trajectory of our lives.

Fast forward two years and we received word that change our lives again. We had been working on a movie idea based on the book and her manager Danny finally brought it to her one morning. As she was flipping through she said she thought she had recognized it. She walked into her library and returned with a copy of the book which she had already read. After that she was on board.

We ended up making the movie and she (along with Linda Perry) did the sound track which included 6 original songs (one was even nominated for a Grammy). The movie starred Jennifer Aniston and we even got to visit the set during filming (we also have a small cameo). Of all the memories I have from that experience, including the red carpet premiere, my favorite was one January in 2018

We had flown out to California to do some promo for the film and ended up spending the day with Dolly. She was kindest, funniest, down to earth person. She made you instantly feel like part of her family. We ended up taking a pic together and I still have a framed copy at my house. Dolly did so much for so many people and never asked for anything in return. I will be eternally grateful for everything she did

RIP Dolly.

Beautiful person and beautiful soul. One of the most kind and charitable hearts too.

America just lost a national treasure.
We all knew she wasn't going to live forever but this is still a moment of mourning for all of us.

She might have been the only entertainer I can think of that everyone liked. I mean, you might not buy her music or whatever, but you liked her. Genuine. Someone you'd want to hang with. 60 years in the spotlight, and you never got the feeling it went to her head.

To me, that overrides any of her other accomplishments.

I've always respected Dolly Parton's talent and personality, but I went through a phase in the early 80s when she had some kind of concert special on HBO or somewhere that I watched multiple times. How did she play the guitar with those nails!? (open tuning, I realized later.) Also, I was a big fan of "Rhinestone", a tragically underappreciated movie she did with Sylvester Stallone shortly after "Best Little *****house in Texas" with Burt Reynolds. Why did my parents let me watch that movie multiple times as a 10-12 year old? Answer: Dolly, Burt, and the Texas Aggies.

RIP Dolly Parton

I have so many stories from working with her over the past 10 years. We even became good friends with her niece who manages the Dolly archives and past costumes.

Here's a fun one:

Dolly didn't send emails but you could still get an email from her.

When Dolly wanted to send you an email, she would type it up, print it out, and sign it. She would then hand if off to her manager who would scan it back into the computer and email it to you. Of course if you had a fax machine, she would just fax it to you herself

Amen, I only know a few of her songs tbh, but she was such an icon in my childhood and always radiated kindness and authenticity and the best vibes. I remembered loving her as a child and it was largely because of stuff like this...
