I have always liked Pearl Jam more than a lot of other bands from the era but never loved them. But I have a question for the big fans of Pearl Jam

Do you consider them Grunge? To me that label never fit them. To me they actually seemed more like a straight ahead rock band that just happened to come from the land and time of Grunge.

Depends on your definition of "Grunge", I guess. I never understood what Grunge was supposed to sound like, since all of the bands in that genre sounded completely different. Did Grunge sound like Nirvana? Soundgarden? Alice in Chains? Pearl Jam? All completely different bands with completely different sounds.

I can think of riffs from the other three bands that sound "grunge" to me, but I can't think of a riff from Pear Jam that has that same feel.

lots of distortion and reverb on Ten. The re-release does sounds a lot cleaner.

I listen to so much stuff that is just thrown into 'metal' yet they blend or experiment in more genres than anything else out there.

I like what i like and it's of all genres and eras.

Just because I like X doesn't meant I like Y from the same era and genre.

I think Grunge was a label they stuck on all those Seattle bands to sell $100 flannel shirts. Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, AIC don't really have a similar sound, other than they weren't hair bands.
