I've honestly never seen this many actors starring in / overlapping across this many notable films in a single calendar year.

When all is said and done, who do you think wins the year?

ANNE HATHAWAY

- Mother Mary
- The Devil Wears Prada 2
- The Odyssey (for which she'll likely receive an Oscar nomination)
- The End of Oak Street
- Verity (based on the best-selling novel, releasing in October)

TOM HOLLAND

- The Odyssey
- Spider-Man: Brand New Day
- MIGHT cameo in Avengers: Doomsday
- What he lacks in volume he makes up for in sheer, zeitgeist / box office dominance.

ROBERT PATTINSON

- The Drama (indie hit for A24)
- The Odyssey
- Primetime (for which he could potentially receive an Oscar nomination, releasing in September)
- Dune: Part Three
- Is essentially playing the villain in the two biggest "prestige" blockbusters of the year.
- Is currently filming The Batman: Part II

FLORENCE PUGH

- Spider-Man: Brand New Day
- Avengers: Doomsday
- Dune: Part Three
- The only actor to receive double billing on "Dunesday."

ZENDAYA

- Euphoria: Season 3
- The Drama (indie hit for A24)
- The Odyssey
- Spider-Man: Brand New Day
- Dune: Part Three

What are we defining as winning? BO #s or just comes out looking the best?

In reality, I think they all win the year.

Just comes out looking the best, accomplishes the most career-wise, is on a whole new level after this year, etc.

Strictly going by box office will probably get too technical.

All I know is the divorce fight between Tom and Zendaya is going to be insane.

I'd probably put Hathaway at the top, with Zendaya a close second, based on volume and variety. If the criteria is going up a level, Zendaya might take the lead, but only because Hathaway is already basically at the top of the actress pile.

Inde Navarrete should get a mention just based on going from a virtual unknown and Twitch streamer to a possible Oscar nominee and cast in X-Men.

Couple of sidenotes --

Oak Street is absolutely a Cloverfield movie right? Might even tie in directly to the monster from the first movie.

Had no idea Josh Hartnett stars in Verity and also the lead in Oliver Stone's next project. Was literally thinking yesterday about what he might be doing next and hoping his career resurgence continues. Glad to see it is.

Before it was "Oak Street," the main street in the movie, and thus the title of the movie, was "Flowervale Street" (sans "The End of…"). They decided to change it *because* the name was too reminiscent of "Cloverfield" (clover/flower). I have a friend who worked on it, and was part of a group who voted on replacement title options, and The End of Oak Street is what won out. In other words, as much as one would think it is, for whatever reason it's not a Cloverfield movie, to the point where they're going out of their way to avoid any confusion.

To that point, I know TC was just talking about actors in his OP, but I think overall the biggest winner this year is Curry Barker.

The Zendaya hate is fascinating to me. I feel like people either think she is really good or hate her, and I fall into the former. I feel like she adds so much to whatever film she is in and does really well with small parts but can also carry a whole movie (see Challengers or The Drama). The memes of her making grumpy faces are kinda weird to me because I'm sure you can do that for any actor because they all make grumpy faces in movies.

She plays Zendaya in everything she's in, just like Michelle Rodriguez plays a single role in everything she's in.

Same. I think she has more range than her critics allege, but I'm not seeing a film because she's in it or expecting her presence to raise the film at all.

Based on that list I gotta go with Pattinson, he plays a key role in each of those and honestly he's the only actor on this list to me that's in the discussion for must-see these days. I'm not pro or anti Hathaway, she's just a safe bet for what you're going to get, high floor but low ceiling. Holland is Spider-Man and that's really it. I like Florence Pugh, but she's not asked to do much in this list of films. I don't hate Zendaya, but she doesn't do anything for me either, is there any role where you remove her and replace her with another actress and you come out at a net loss? Much like with Pedro Pascal, I think we are all just a little fatigued with how many things she's cast in.

I've always liked Anne Hathaway.

But what she did this summer…all over the spectrum…damn.

I think my vote will likely be for Pattinson as well. Ha, not only has he already achieved legendary meme status this summer, but IMO he killed it in The Odyssey overall. While The Drama, which he was also great in, was maybe the second "buzziest" movie of the spring outside of Project Hail Mary.

Going forward, Primetime looks to be really good/weird and, again, could possibly earn him an Oscar nomination, then he's of course ending the year with a bang with Dune: Part Three. All the while showing up for all these press junkets / red carpets in the midst of doing an eight-month shoot for The Batman: Part II. It's pretty crazy.

In fact, he's *almost* starting to reach DiCaprio territory for me, where, if he's in it, I'm almost assuredly watching it, and I can't wait to see what he's done with whatever character he's playing.

As of now, if I had to rank them, like MVP votes, I'd probably go...

1. Pattinson
2. Zendaya
3. Hathaway
4. Holland
5. Pugh

Something like that.

Pattinson is probably top for me too and is probably my favorite actor of my generation. He just makes such interesting choices, and then has a high DGAF in the press junkets that I find amusing. I think his performance in The Drama is Oscar worthy on its own, but Primetime seems to be more Oscar-baity. And we know that the Oscars love a villain, so don't rule out a double nom if he is that good in Dune 3.

I think Hathaway is 2nd. She is just in so many interesting movies as well. A weird A24 movie (that I haven't seen yet), a Nolan epic, a legacy sequel, a dino movie by an acclaimed horror director, and then the erotic thriller to close out the year. She will definitely be getting a supporting actress nom for the Odyssey too.

1. Pattinson
2. Hathaway
3. Holland & Zendaya (Tie)
5. Pugh

All great points, and I could definitely go with this order too. I think Hathaway has for sure been better than Zendaya this year, and in more eclectic roles/movies too, I just think Zendaya will have been in more bigger movies overall. It's a tough call, depending on what the criteria is (which, admittedly, I'm not even sure of, haha).

I just think it's bizarre that there is so much cast overlap in some of the biggest movies of this year. They all star some combination of Holland, Pattinson, Zendaya, and Pugh.

The Odyssey
Spider-Man
Dune 3
The Drama

It's Robert Pattinson. As far as the rest of the actors mentioned in the OP:

Pattinson easy. He's on one of those 2011 Gosling or 2013-2014 McConaughey heaters.

Zendaya is probably going to be in movies that make over $3B this year.

That's wild, and I'm not sure anyone else in history can say that.

$3Billion.

That said, she's just there. Fine, serviceable, not bringing anything down. But just there.
Rigs
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Now that I look at it, I don't think anybody has ever even cleared $2B in a year, minus a cameo. Which both she and her bf Holland will do. And jumped it straight to $3B.

That's crazy.

Let's tap the brakes. One movie hitting $3B would be the first in history to do so, let alone two of them happening in one year.

Edit: I guess you mean cumulatively. Misread that.
Rigs

Odyssey, Spidey, and Dune are all gonna do $1B+ each

Nobody's ever come close to that before.
Rigs
How long do you want to ignore this user?
She may actually hit *$4 Billion* this year.

Spidey is already past a bill in a week, with plenty of gas in the tank. Probably lands north of $1.5B.

The Odyssey will pass $1B today, with sold out shows into October probably lands at at least $1.3B.

It's not a stretch to see Dune doing $1.2B.

Spidey already hits $1.7B in just week 2. Should have said "well north of $1.5B".

Whatever Dune doesn't do, this has already covered.

Zendaya may be over $4.5B for the year.

If you do that, you win the year. Regardless of your (deservedly so) lack of Oscar noms.

Zendaya has maybe 5 minutes of screentime in The Odyssey. She should not get credit for that one.
