maybe if the movie was about he stole the life story of another man and never paid him fairly

Is that true? I didn't know that.

That man?
You guessed it.

Technically yes. The story is based on a guy named Chuck Wepner, who was a decent fighter in his day. He was in the Ali era, so he was never a champion, but he did fight him.

Edit: They made an HBO movie about it. See below.

Too bad Chuck and The Brawler never made it as big as Rocky.

I dunno. I'm a big Sly Stone fan and it's kind of weird for me that he's not involved in it whatsoever. I know it's not a biopic, but to leave him completely out of this project seems odd to me.

What??? Link? This can't be

Sly is not involved...

I was shocked to read [about] it. I have zero to do with it. Since I lived it, I thought I might be able to participate and give them some insight.

Ironic that from the trailer and from Stallone's words, the producers wanted to make the movie without him in it because he wasn't the right guy to play the lead. Now, they're doing it to him again by making a movie without him.

I'm sure the movie might not really be about him but about the movie making process, but without Stallone there is no Rocky.

They made a movie about Mark Zuckerberg without his involvement that turned out well.

Re-watched Rocky for the first time in a couple decades because of this trailer. It holds up. Looking forward to this one.

Counterpoint: the Napoleon movie didn't do so well without the Bonaparte's input.

Great interview and he discusses several of the plot points of the movie. Not sure I believe him when he said he had no money, dude took points on the film and it made a ton.

I can't wait for this movie also.

My favorite story about seeing this movie...my Dad took my brother and me to see it in a theater in Houston...I think somewhere off Westheimer...and just before the scene where Rocky drinks the raw eggs, the light bulb in the projector went out...so we couldn't see anything, but the movie kept running and we could hear something going on. Wasn't until years later that I got to see the scene on VHS.

The quick shot of the ice skating scene, that actress looks spot on for Talia Shire.
I was in the room here one day... watchin' the Mexican channel on TV. I don't know nothin' about Pele. I'm watchin' what this guy can do with a ball and his feet. Next thing I know, he jumps in the air and flips into a somersault and kicks the ball in - upside down and backwards... the dang (sc) goalie never knew what the hell hit him. Pele gets excited and he rips off his jersey and starts running around the stadium waving it around his head. Everybody's screaming in Spanish. I'

I think I saw that a few weeks ago...wasn't the claim that he didn't have much money before this movie? Not after it raked in a bunch of dough?

I did as well which led to a re-watch of First Blood which surprisingly holds up very well after 40+ years.

I love how Rock only gets really pissed at Mickey early on and Gazzo's driver. I guess he gets mad at Paulie but that doesn't really count.

Festival premiere and all that, so take these with the usual grain of salt, but this is only a fraction of the raves I've seen so far…

When I saw Rocky IV, the audience was literally standing and cheering during Rocky's fight vs Drago. Not at the end when he wins. During the whole fight. Only time I've seen a movie that turned into an actual sporting event. So this is encouraging

I really hope this is good, but I've (finally) stopped believing any influencer reviews ahead of releases and getting my hopes up. They said the same things about Disclosure Day…

I'm with you on the influencer stuff but I feel a movie like this doesn't exactly have the same pull for influencer reactions…I'm betting these are 100% legit and while I won't be seeing it just for time schedule reasons I hope it goes nuts!

Weird how you get stuck on that movie's twelve early reactions I posted when early screening reactions for, like, three or four big movies since then were basically spot-on.

Also, just FYI, none of these are "influencer reviews." They're simply reactions from critics who are attending a film festival either on their own dime or on the dime of their outlet. None of these people were invited by the studio, this wasn't a studio press screening, etc.

Recent Stallone interview.

He references the above mentioned Chuck Wepner around 8:50 or so.

Goes into other details as well.

Maybe im misremembering Disclosure Day but I thought some early reviews were also indicating it would not be good
