Any hope for a less stressful final season has left the building, but I'm going to be there for the whole ride.
Will the show get back to being good?

Fired up Hulu for the first time in months expecting the algorithm to start hyping me up for Bear weekend and I had to dig deep to find anything.

Sounds like The Bear is taking a page from The Pitt. From Sepinwall..."Critics were given the first seven of eight episodes. All take place on the same day the day after Season Four ended with Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) informed Syd, Richie, and Natalie (Abby Elliott) that he was quitting the restaurant business for the sake of his emotional well-being"
II just want to say, t's really nice to have a show that releases a new season at the exact same time every year like clockwork.
I ended my subscription to Hulu. No other w a year to watch this I assume.
It airs on FX...
I watched the first Episode of Season 5 last night. Glad to be back, but man these episodes are short. I know this show typically has really short episodes, but this season only has 8 episodes and 5 of them are under 28 minutes. Episode 1 was barely 20 minutes long.
And just like that, show's over. No fun weekly discussions, no theories. I'll come back after watching them all, I guess.

Syd is so ****ing unbearable (lol), and a terrible leader.
Richie has been my favorite character since the Forks episode. Then I found out he's the bad guy in The Last Ship.

I watched the first three episodes last night and this is the most stressed out I've been watching this show, which I didn't know was possible.
Three episodes in and enjoying it. The "air rights"' subplot is my favorite part; I'd watch a spinoff featuring Computer and his niece Cheese.
Definitely felt like this season should have happened sooner. It felt tighter and of course love the characters.

Cheese is a fun add. Im enjoying her character as well.

Same. It does ease up some in the later episodes This season is intense.
Good season to end the series -- they turned the volume down on Carmy just enough to where you sympathize with him while mixing in good subplots with Ebra and Jimmy-Computer-Cheese.
I've seen some criticism that the last episode is too "saccharine" but to me it felt right to end it that way after everything they've all been through.
I never thought this was a show that was outright bad, but seasons 3 and 4 did not follow the sheer brilliance of seasons 1 and 2. Season 5 is the show ending on a high note.

Great final season - watching chaos in the kitchen and maintaining calm/service in the FOH. I am in the restaurant biz (not Ops, but been around it a lot). So accurate and a fun kind of stress to watch.
I don't get why all the praise falls on Sydney for the stars. It was Carmy's family restaurant, his family funded it, he hired Sydney, it was mainly his dishes and his vision for the restaurant, he was the one that connected Marcus to the chef in Amsterdam, he was the one that connected Richie to the chef at Ever (I think it was Ever), he got classes for both Tina and Ebra and then trusted Ebra to run the sandwich window as he saw fit. Feels like Carmy was responsible for 95% of the success of the restaurant and everyone in it, yet Sydney gets all the glory? And she cracked under pressure and Carmy had to step in.

I stuck with it and finished this weekend, really enjoyed it. I thought that was a good way to finish the story. I personally don't think the character of Sydney makes a ton of sense in how things played out with her, but rarely does a show end perfectly. I enjoyed how this last season was basically one crazy day. I could have gone an entire season with Uncle Jimmy, Computer, and Cheese and their adventure, that was my favorite part of the season.

First, I don't disagree with any of this. It irritated the hell out of me.
That being said, I think part of it was the recognition that her changes to his scallop dish were what stuck with the critic. More than that, I think Carmy's arc was completed by his changing from the guy who would do anything to get a star to prove himself to his brother/mother/Chef Fields/etc, to the guy who didn't care about who got the credit.
I think the handoff to Sydney just feels a bit rushed. It didn't feel like in the show she's gotten to the point where Carmy would have the level of faith in her needed for him to walk away with everyone else dependent upon that restaurant. I think they could have gotten there with some more story, but I agree there's some breadcrumbs there showing the way she was headed and what he was seeing from her. If we got even one episode that felt like things went nuts and she was completely in control I think it makes for a cleaner ending.

Final episode landed the plane very well. Loved it. Tears.
Richie became the main character to me at some point in season 1-2 and I'll really enjoy future rewatches more knowing how it ends

Seasons 3-5 should have been condensed by 30% at least. Dragged way too much.
Didn't enjoy the pivot to Hans Zimmer overall. Final episode nailed it ok but come on season 1 ended with perhaps the greatest needle drop of all time.
We always heard that Storer had a 3 season plot laid out at the beginning and assumed things changed with the success of season 2. Did he stretch out his season 3 vision to become 5 seasons or did he add on to his original vision?
I cringed for a moment with the talks of an engagement at dinner that night that no way they would have Claire return. Probably just a redirect - "we're not doing the Peggy/Stan/Mad Men ending here"
Solid ending for Carm and if there's a season 6 he would return after 1 year of exile to the business world. Opposite ending of mad men or I guess you could say in mad men they did extended time for Draper to go through an exile and return in the end
Need to digest last episode for awhile but it's in the pantheon for prestige TV final episodes at first watch. The binge drop model makes it so hard to compare. Instead of hype building up to a huge Sunday night finale I'm watching on my phone on an airplane on a Thursday afternoon.

I ****ing love this show. People smirk when I say it's a more realistic version of Ted Lasso but I stand by it. The storytelling is top notch. Nothing is cheap or easily predictable and the characters are incredible. I usually despise one or two in a show but I see myself in every single one of them. Nobody was extra or unneeded and again. From Carm to Uncle Jimmy to Sugar to Richie to Neal Geoff Fak to ****ing Pete, I loved them all.
I don't feel like I'm being ridiculous when I say that might be the best final episode of an any show I've ever watched. From start to finish, it was a hug and a gut punch at the same time.
The older I get, I've come to believe one of the most noble paths a person can take is to make others the best version of themselves they can be. So this show hit hard for me.

I would have loved to see Tina, Ritchie and Marcus's reaction to the news about the star. Ritchie and Tina's character growth and arcs were so well written and earned. .

I also enjoyed how their relationship with everyone, especially Sydney, evolved and showed the best of them(Ritchie and Tina).
