Interesting read.
The tactics employed on TCAP and by some of the police departments engaged in the sting operations were improper...clearly that was the case with the Texas DA.
It seems like much of the online discourse after the release of the trailer has been focused on the ethics of Dateline, Hansen, the police, etc. to a point of almost being sympathetic to the guys that got caught up in these stings. There has been a lot of talk of entrapment and in most of the cases, especially this one, I just don't see it. Nobody forced a grown man, let alone a grown man who is a former prosecutor, to engage with a 13-year-old boy online. A normal person disengages the moment they learn that, they don't proceed to engage with them sexually. There are certainly cases where mentally deficient people get caught up in this and I think cases like that should be looked at a bit differently, but goodness gracious...I don't care if some of the tactics were wrong or unethical...at the end of the day, if you are willing to engage sexually online with a 13-year-old, you are unfit for civil society.
