An A24 film directed by Lance Oppenheim about Chris Hansen from Dateline NBC's To Catch a Predator. Starring Robert Pattinson.

The trailer just came out:

Big fan of Robert Pattinson and was a big fan of TCAP back in the day, looks intriguing.

Back before memes were a thing, this made the rounds on a regular basis even in the corporate world.

They should have gotten Lane Kiffin to play Chris Hansen

They can't do this film without having the pervert Jeff Sokol eating the pizza and the Stacy guy with the squeaky voice. I loved me some TCAP back in the day.

I suspect this movie will end with the suicide of the Asst DA from Texas that ultimately pulled the plug on the show.

TCAP was greatness. There was a running thread on the rivalries board (RIP) back in the day.

This looks so good. I am a fan of Pattinson's Chris Hansen impression and am eager to see the way they portray him and the show in the film. This is the most excited I've been for a movie in a while.

Robert Pattinson is on a generational run. He is one of those A Listers where I don't see the actor, I see the character. Its rare.

Interesting read.

The tactics employed on TCAP and by some of the police departments engaged in the sting operations were improper...clearly that was the case with the Texas DA.

It seems like much of the online discourse after the release of the trailer has been focused on the ethics of Dateline, Hansen, the police, etc. to a point of almost being sympathetic to the guys that got caught up in these stings. There has been a lot of talk of entrapment and in most of the cases, especially this one, I just don't see it. Nobody forced a grown man, let alone a grown man who is a former prosecutor, to engage with a 13-year-old boy online. A normal person disengages the moment they learn that, they don't proceed to engage with them sexually. There are certainly cases where mentally deficient people get caught up in this and I think cases like that should be looked at a bit differently, but goodness gracious...I don't care if some of the tactics were wrong or unethical...at the end of the day, if you are willing to engage sexually online with a 13-year-old, you are unfit for civil society.

Just to be 100% clear, given the subject matter, I haven't read the article yet, nor am I implying we should have sympathy for pedos. I just saw the tweet and posted it as context for the thread.

The article is a good read.

It is less sympathetic towards them and more critical of the practices of TCAP and that law enforcement group, which was fair...they clearly were out of line in a number of ways.

I was speaking more towards the overall discourse...people seem to be very sympathetic towards many of the guys that got caught up in this and I just don't get it, save for the cases where the guys are so clearly mentally deficient they don't really know better.
