Atari 5200
Nintendo
Sega Genesis
Playstation
PS2
PSP
PS3
PS5

Also have an original 1981 Donkey Kong machine at my parents house. I got it refurbed for my dad about a decade ago. It added a plugin to the board that allows saving the scores after being unplugged and adds a couple of levels built by hobbyists. Also replaced the stickers on the side and a few other cosmetic details. Looks and plays like brand new.

I need to find a spot for it in my house and go pick it up. Mom would be happy to have the space back.

It all started with the NES
Sega Genesis
Gameboy
SNES
Gameboy Color
N64
Sega Dreamcast
PS1 (inherited)
PS2
Xbox (inherited)
Xbox 360
Wii
3DS
PS4
Switch
Switch 2

And then of course, PC - the one to rule them all. I had no incentive to get a PS5 when their exclusives end up on PC a year later anyway, though it sounds like that policy is finally changing (which is probably good for Sony).

So basically all of them except Sega Saturn, PS3, Wii U, GBA, DS, PS5 and the newer Xbox generations that I could never follow.

Pong
Atari 2600 (the Sears version of it)
NES

I still have the last two somewhere in storage.

We had the original Atari Pong console then an Atari 5200, Dad splurged for what we thought would be a huge upgrade over the 2600 but it fizzled out quickly with very few games available.

We got a Colecovision for Christmas and I played Zaxxon almost exclusively.

After that didn't buy a new console until college when the Nintendo NES launched. We couldn't afford cable for a while so roommates and I played TecmoBowl for entertainment.

Nintendo GameCube was next console I owned and the last I purchased for myself. Played alot of GTA on it.

I have since bought quite a few for my son over the years including a Nintendo Wii. Several Xbox consoles and a Switch. He's all PC gaming now.

  • NES-I still have this one somewhere
  • Xbox 360-This really got me into first person shooters
  • Nintendo Switch- Animal Crossing for life!
  • Xbox Series X-We have two of these so my wife and I can play GTA at the same time
But what might be my actual favorite system, The Phillips CDi

I absolutely loved this system. We got it in the early 90s and I was obsessed with some of the games. Burn Cycle, 7th Guest, Dimo's Quest, and Mystic Midway were some of my favorites. It introduced me to the the Zelda franchise with Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon. It's also how I learned to gamble and how to hit a trifecta thanks to Ceaser's World of Gambling. I spent hours on this thing and even used it for school as we had a digital encyclopedia for it as well. I'm actually disappointed my dad got rid of it.

Growing up, getting a new console or handheld was a thrill every time. Adulthood and family priorities have all but killed off my video gaming altogether. Lots of great memories sitting around a CRT with buddies playing NES, SNES, and Genesis games as a kid.

NES - My sister and I convinced my mom that my dad would love it for Christmas. Biggest coup ever
SNES - Seems like a lot of ya'll missed out on the SNES - it was the greatest. My favorite all-time console.
N64 - Greatest multiplayer system of all time.
Gamecube - meh; should've kept my N64
Wii - fun for its day
Switch - lots of fun if I ever get to fire it up
Super Famicom (from a Japanese thrift shop) - Bought an Everdrive for this...nostalgia factor through the roof.

Sega Nomad - my only way to play Genesis. AA battery hog.
Neo Geo Pocket - fun, but limited library.
Dreamcast - Agreed with an earlier poster; Dreamcast deserved so much better. Awesome console.
XBOX - College console; lots of late nights I should've been studying.

PS2 - NCAA Football machine
PS3 - NCAA Football machine
PS4 - NCAA Football machine
PSP - Awesome performance in a handheld for its time...and I could watch movies/tv shows! Livin in the future!

Game Boy - GOAT
Game Boy Color - Also the GOAT
Game Boy Advance - More GOATness
Nintendo DS - Fun
Nintendo 3DS - Great fun; beating Zelda: A Link Between Worlds gave me sanity on a deployment

...I'm a Nintendo guy, apparently.

I've had a few common systems over the decades. But I still go to the Nerdery every year to search "PSP" to see if anyone is still talking about my favorite system.

I'm also aware that an Android retro device that looks like a PSP can be had for $100-$200 that provides access to the entire dormant library of PSP games.

Personally I think kids born between 1980 and 1992 should be called The Gameboy Generation

I had the green one, too. As I recall, it was an improvement upon the first incarnation because it would actually allow forward passes. Maybe I'm imagining that.

If we are talking handheld games, I played the **** out of Lunker Bass Fishin'. I loved it so much I had both models.

I don't believe you are imagining that difference.

couldn't recall but googled it the differences between 1 and 2 are....

  • the forward pass
  • the ability to run backwards
  • 9 yard field vs 10 yard field and a little wider
In v1 you were lined up with a 2 space gape between you and defenders and just ran forward looking for a gap, you had no ability to run backwards

In v2 you dropped back and if a defender stepped forward to rush you could throw over him to a downfield receiver. and you could run forward or backwards.

I recall an unstoppable play where you went backward and then camped at the bottom until all the defenders were lined up at the bottom, then you jumped up to the top and sprinted for a TD.

I loved this one too.
