I watched the cartoon religiously as a kid and had all the toys. I can honestly say this film was definitely a film that I watched. I can appreciate some of the fan service it gave and it wasn't a bad film overall, but it was about 45-60 minutes longer than it needed to be. Some sequences were too long; some were entirely unnecessary. The fisting joke was a little funny the first time, but when they kept going after it it got tired. There's been a long-running fan theory that Skeletor was gay, so it was funny to see them pay some service to that with his comments about Adam's muscles and "glorious thighs." What I didn't like about it was how they made Adam a really unlikeable character and the obvious ripoffs of other films like Thor: Ragnarok.

My verdict: I'll watch it if it's on, but won't go out of my way to watch it again. With commercials, it's probably a 3-1/2 to 4 hour watch. I don't have time for that.

It's listed as two hours and twenty minutes including credits. A version with commercials should be three hours tops, and that's only if there's a lot of commercials

Well, I was entertained and thought it was pretty great. I thought it was a great mix of fan service and not taking itself seriously because how can you?

I would have liked to have seen a few more characters. I was kind of expecting to see Stratos in the ship chase scene. Zodac is mentioned but not shown.

After rewatching on Prime, couple more thoughts. Trapjaw was pretty damn cool but Beastman was badass! What a good depiction of him.

I couldn't hear Skeletor that well in theater. Closed captioning really helps. The Sorceress and Evil-Lyn were both underused. Same for Cringer/Battle Cat.

The CGI was pretty well done.

Really hoping for a continuation. Then they can bring in a few more characters. Or have some good side plots.

Feels like a director like James Gunn could make it great.

Oof, i've soured on james gunn.Please don't let him take over this franchise. But I agree with the rest of your post.This is a really fun movie for anyone who grew up in the eighties and had any appreciation for the cartoon and action figures.

Yeah, I was surprised they downplayed Battle Cat and basically morphed Cringer and Battle Cat as one and the same as opposed to Adam being separate from He-Man (physically speaking). I guess that actually makes more sense now that I think about it since the sword's power is really only tied to Adam. Just wish we could have seen the real Battle Cat in armor outside of the fan service shot at the very end.

Agree on Beast Man. He was the second figure I got after He-Man back in 1983.

This is some pretty funny memories for me from the mid 80's. My little brother was really in to He-Man. He had the figures and some castle and some other stuff. We shared a room and he always had his He-Man stuff set up on his wall. I had my Star Wars and GI Joe stuff on the other end. Our older brother was frankly, a *****, and he picked on us constantly, So one day he walks in and looks at the He-Man stuff and says "that sh** is so gay" and walks off.

Little brother: what's gay mean?
Me: I don't know, I think like Michael Jackson?
Little brother: 0h

Looking back on it, I think that show was made by a weird consortium of heteros who would rather be making porn and some gay dudes laughing their ass off at the finished product. The 80's were awesome but kind of strange too if we're being honest. Nothing like the 70's but still.

The original toy line was more adult and darker than the later cartoon which I never really watched much. The original figures came with their own little comic books. Kind of wish I had still had them so I could confirm my recollection. I'm sure I could find it online.

I got my first few He-Man figures at Skaggs Alpha Beta. I actually recall walking down the toy aisle and seeing He-Man for the first time and begging my mom to get it for me.

It felt like they had run out of money and couldn't have Battle Cat in the part that Battle Cat absolutely should have been in. Same reason why we only got a tiny bit of Orko, that's a lot of CGI $$$.

I'm still bummed they didn't have the Attak-Trak in the movie. The 1970s panel van of Eternia.

But really my point was that peak Gunn could have crushed this concept.

His DCU movies are bombing because his strategy seems poor and style is stale and his shows aren't all hitting either although Lanterns looks good.

Yeah, its just obvious that Gunn is a one-note guy.... a ragtag group of mismatched irreverant anti-heroes who all have issues (typically stemming from their parents), they slowly become a new replacement "family" for each other, throw in some crude quips and needle-drops from the 70's - 90's, and you got yourself a James Gunn movie. But ever since the first Gaurdians (great movie) its like he's just been copying himself.

Gunn reminds me of great band that has an amazing debut album and then just never really gets away from the sound that made it great. They try different stuff , but it's not as good.

GOTG remains my all-time favorite Marvel movie. I'm not a huge fan of the 2nd because of the non-stop CGI punching near the end, but the third one is also really good. But he literally just did the same thing over again with Suicide Squad 2 and in my opinion failed miserably to solve who Superman is, although that movie had a lot of good supporting bits - Guy Gardner, JImmy Olsen, and Mr. Terrific

Two best things about that film...which is sad.

This is I think a pretty solid take. (Fellow GOTG lover here.)

I also think he's got more in him, but don't know if trying to do too much running the whole show with DC has taken away from that or not.

One of my close friends works in pre-viz and was on one of his movies for just a day or two before shifting projects. He got to watch some of the meetings Gunn had with the producers and writers, and said it was an absolute masterclass in storytelling.
