One of the better JRE episodes I've listened to in a while. Ethan is a really interesting dude, had a hell of a career and is an open book. Cool interview!

Almost an hour into this episode, and I have a newfound appreciation for the guy. Seems genuinely intellectual, humble, kind and decent.

I have only seen some of his movies, maybe him winning an award or two followed by a brief speech, but never listened to him in any type of interview setting that I recall. What a cool dude.

I didn't like that he started off by bashing on Explorers. Not the greatest movie in the world, but I loved it as a kid and still have a soft spot for it. Considering at that point he had very little experience, you can already tell on that first role he has natural talent.

He also glossed over White Fang as some relative unknown movie.

He didn't bash it. He said he was in the restroom with River Phoenix and some dudes who didn't recognize them were bashing it. It was basically a check yourself story - and who knows, to Joe's point, maybe that kept him from being another tragic child actor story.

He said something at the beginning about how it just wasn't good. I mean, it isn't a great movie, but I wish he looked back upon that first role fondly. It's a cool movie, just goofy.

Saw Gattaca for the first time not too long ago actually. Good movie, one that really sticks with you for a bit. He was great in it. I was also really moved by the Jude Law character storyline.

For me that's him in A Midnight Clear. He was great in that, just not a very popular movie.

Love the Before series.
