Cage looks a bit rough (kind of puffy faced) in episode 1.

I can't tell if it's just him or the look they are going for.

Opinions?

Finished episode 1. Loving the feeling and mystery, so far. Definitely hitting that noir itch was hoping it would. I cursed loudly at the screen the moment the episode ended, and it started that, "this season..." I don't want spoilers, dammit!

Love how they are leaning in to these great noir tropes. I can't imagine this looking even half as good, in color. The use of shadows and his white eyes, during the intro, was obviously made for black and white.

And Cage's look doesn't bother me, at all.

On to episode 2!

I'm assuming you're using a Firestick or TV app.

If you access Prime Video on your phone or computer, you can change it to B&W and then it'll sync to your Firestick.

Sugar on apple TV would scratch that Noir style itch as well.

Watched the first 2 episodes last night and it didn't disappoint! Man, I really thought Cage's career was in the dumpster but this might signal a comeback for him - it feels like the right role for him. Watched the first two episodes in color, might watch the next in B&W. Even in color the high contrast and harsh lighting is so great - and the camera work is gooood! Feels like seeing something special when you watch it.

Trust me... you do NOT get the full effect in color. It was made for black and white first and foremost, which is evident in the way they handled the shadows and such.

There is only one narrative: The ETs Farsight is in contact with are the good guys. Not so regarding the faction of et OUR military is in bed with.

I'm on episode 5 and still having fun.

The little scene at the phone booth where he straight up told the lady he lied, made me laugh out loud. I was waiting for some kind of witty retort to explain things. The "I lied" got me.

Why did you think that? He's had some pretty good roles in recent years. Did you see Longlegs?

I totally agree and her and Nic's banter is the only comic relief in the show so far. (Only 2 episodes in.)

Agreed and if any of you have not seen "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent" I recommend it. It is a lot of fun and he sure makes fun of himself.

But trying to explain to my wife what it is when she saw me watching it was very entertaining.

B&W is a must for this one. 5 minutes of Color was just...wrong.

Cage is outstanding in the role, although I was bothered by the accent until it was explained mid-way through.

I thought it started slow but from episode 5 on it was fantastic television. Definitly would like to see aother season.

Not sure if this has been discussed but Google does something special if you type in Spider Noir.

This series is amazing. Watched the first episode in color and then switched to black and white for the rest.

I agree, what an annoying character. I was so happy when he was gone for good..

I really enjoyed it! Looking forward to season 2 which I hope is a go..

I am through 6 and this feels really special. So well done. The supporting cast is all fantastic. Silvermane really feels like an old school villain. The secretary, the singer, the reporter are all perfect. Even the little street kid is great.

Finished all of it and they nailed it. Don't know how to explain it, but they did a really great job of making it all feel like you think it should feel. It feels so much like Spiderman, but definitely it's own thing, too.

I had finished the season last week - watched I think 3 in color, the rest in black and white. I enjoyed both, with a slight preference for the B&W by the end. The plot I would say was kind of vanilla, but it didn't really need to be anything more than that IMO. This was about getting the "taste" of that time period and with that they nailed it.

Oh, and maybe my favorite B&W scene was the sparks hitting the ground in the big fight scene. That was pretty cool.

Enjoyed it. Honestly, both my wife and I thought the secretary was our favorite character. Hoping this is her official big breakout!

That said, we watched the 1st 3 episodes on B&W and then switched to color just to see it, as I had been reading online how impressive the colors were. I definitely enjoyed B&W with the Noir theme as it just "fits" better, but the color was just so impressive and really opened up the world and sets so much more for us. We had no idea after the first few episodes just how vibrant the inside of the apartments were or even his office, for that matter. Costumes really came much more to life, as well. Not sure how many characters can pull off an orange suit and jacket, but they did!

I would advise anyone that loves it in B&W to consider rewatching in color the 2nd time around. They both have their pluses and minuses.

finally got around to starting this. watched the first 2 episodes with the family and i am definitely hooked!

the biggest thing that they are getting right so far is how they are handling the mystery surrounding all these different characters. it's actually intriguing and we're looking forward to seeing where this goes.

and brian count me in in hoping this role helps your friend get more roles in the future....it's was pretty cool watching her knowing this was a super big deal for her and she's been a lot of fun to watch banter with nic cage...

3 episodes left. Man this is good!

This has me thinking….how well do you think it would be received if some of these super hero properties did other things like this?

Imagine a completely disconnected Superman movie that takes place post WWII?

Or a Batman movie that takes place in the 20s with the mob?

Unique ideas completely separate from any sort of "universe" and just classic characters with interesting and unique stories told against different backdrops….

Sounds more interesting than some of the stuff we've been getting the last several years….

I've been taking my time with this one. Watched the second to last episode, last night, and will probably watch the last today.

It's funny how very little Spider moments we actually get. But whenever we do, I love the way it looks. They obviously use CGI, but I also love how they seem to cut things where it looks like they made this back in the early days of hollywood. They cut things in ways that make it just seem older, with camera tricks and such, which I'm loving. It just goes to show, we don't need the crazy CGI to enjoy stories. I will take great characters and a fun story with little CGI, any day.

And too much hasn't been said about Brendan Gleeson. I love him in this role. Also, I was today year's old when I actually realized that Domhnall Gleeson is his son! How the hell have I never known that?

Has anyone seen any metrics on how well this has done with audiences? For such a niche and strange thing, I would love for it to be doing well.

ETA: Also... for anyone who has seen Episode 7, that montage had me losing my *****

DC has an entire line of comic one shots that do this called Elseworlds. The most famous one is Gotham By Gaslight which is set in a Victorian era Gotham and Batman is searching for Jack the Ripper. The setting is awesome, and its very famous... but I always found the story a little lacking. It would be great for a standalone movie or series though like you mentioned.

I don't know a lot about any other ones, but I'm sure someone else can share some titles or you can go down a wikipedia rabbit hole. I think there's a Lovecraft-Batman crossover, and one where Batman is in the old west.

Here's one that sounds like what you described:

For anyone who doesn't know this character, from Into the Spiderverse, do yourself a favor and watch both Into the Spiderverse and Across the Spiderverse.

The best Spider-man movies we've ever had, imo, and two of the best animated movies from the last 20 years.
Had no idea Nic Cage was also the voice for The Spider in the Spiderverse movies! My oldest pointed that out tonight after we'd finished the show….really awesome show btw!

But he picked up on a line in the first episode that confirms this is the same character in the same universe from which he came in the Spiderverse movies….one of the first lines he says in the first episode is something to the effect of, "Someone once asked me what universe this is."

All this time I thought Nic Cage was just a really fun and interesting casting choice…which it was…but man this was actually deeper than I gave it credit for
