I hope Guy Ritchie makes more TV. Between this and The Gentlemen he's made great TV shows in back to back years.

Finally got caught up with this one.

It's awesome. And it further solidifies Tom Hardy as one of my favorite actors of this generation. He's just so damn good at playing subtle characters. He doesn't need to yell and scream and be over the top to understand he's one Bad ass MF. Kind of the same vibe as Dunkirk. Just quiet, and goes about his business.

And I agree with yalls thoughts on Maeve. She's calculated. I get the feeling she's setting it all up to get Eddie somewhere because she knows she can control him. She wants to take over and that's how she's going to do it.

Great cast and great show. Between this and "Dope Thief" I have a pretty good lineup of stuff to watch.

How does this compare to gentlemen?

Not as lighthearted but just as much violence and British gangsters.

Trying to determine if my wife would like this or of it would be too much for her. She hates violent shows (but loved Peaky Blinders). If its too dark she'll probably check out. If the story is strong enough then she'll
Watch with her eyes closed through the worst bits.

It takes a bit to get going but there's definitely more focus on the story and character dynamics than the violence, like most Guy Ritchie movies and shows it's not very violent till it suddenly is (and it's usually pretty brief).

You might watch the first ep and see what you think, but if y'all have enjoyed his past British gangster content you'll probably like this.

Is it ever, I thought Eddie was going to get it started by snorting coke in the bathroom or shoulder bumping the guard.
But as soon as Maeve headed over to Mrs Stevenson. I thought "Yep ,here we go".

She is the stuff of nightmares.

This show definitely keeps me on the edge of my seat and seems to be heating way TF up, especially just for being mid-season.

100% agree. The movie isn't great, but the show is outstanding. It's got a sense of humor, Mob Land not so much.

That 2nd sentence makes absolutely no sense.

Well we all have exceptions (granted I agree that it's definitely a big compromise with the likes of Peaky Blinders). She got really good and shutting her eyes at the right time. Kind if like my real world example of I hate country music, but I love Willie Nelson….

it's not overtly violent. there are 2 or 3 parts so far but otherwise it's more of a thriller

Great show.

Whoever did the casting for this is brilliant. The beady-eyed guy that plays Ritchey scares the crap outta me. Maeve is immensely unlikable, but that actress nails it. Kevin is the most interesting character to me - member of a family that kills people before they've even had breakfast, yet seems like a genuinely good guy. Exasperated by having zero control over his punk kid, and oblivious to his wife's shenanigans. Actor plays it perfectly. Can't wait for the inevitable showdown with the rapey prison guard.

Question - are we to assume that Maeve is the person who tipped the police off to the location of Archie's body? And do we know what she has against Harry? Why is she trying to turn Conrad against the loyal family fixer?
Sea Speed

Harry is immensely loyal to Conrad and Kevin and is very violent and isn't going to go along with a take over by the twenty something **** up so he has to go. At least that's what I assume.

Fantastic show. Tom hardy is fantastic.

I need to go back and watch this from the beginning. I've seen all the episodes but it's been stop and start on a couple of them and it's a challenge keeping up with who is who.

I agree with this. Harry is loyal to Conrad and Maeve wants him out due to that. Plus, it's obvious Maeve is controlling what she can till Eddie can takeover eventually.

Make sure to watch with subtitles. Easier to follow things with that dialect.

It is obvious that Conrad is fiercely loyal to Harry as well. We also see where Harry met Kevin and they are alluded to as brothers. Their ties are extremely deep.

Caught up on this week's ep last night and man this is getting good.

I saw the ending happening about 30 seconds before it happened, that's obviously going to change the direction of everything moving forward. And it all has to be Maeve, as mentioned there's no way it's Harry and we've already seen Maeve and Eddie plotting. That said, Guy Ritchie isn't one for simple solutions so I'm kind of wondering about other options as to how this might play out.

The scene with Harry and Tommy at the funeral was absolute nails, the frozen look of fear on Tommy's face after Harry calmly walks out is perfect. I absolutely love Harry's irrational confidence. The lunch with Brendan and Seraphina was great too, Brendan's horrible attempts to appear refined and upscale as she rolls her eyes had me chuckling.

The show has done a really good job fleshing out a good number of characters, even the more minor members of the family feel like they've got personality and motivations that we understand as an audience. Looking forward to the rest of the season, have to think it's going to really amp up the next few episodes.

Harry is also the smartest and most sane member of the crew, and Conrad obviously values his opinion more than anyone else. He would never go along with Maeve's crazy plans, so she needs to neutralize him to be able to influence Conrad.
Captain Winky

Yeah, I am enjoying the show much more with subtitles now that I can understand and follow everything being said. I really like it when it tells me what kind of music is being played. "Dark, ominous music plays."

I caught up on this thread before watching the episode, so I knew something big was going to happen at the end. I thought Maeve was going to go crazy after thinking Conrad roofied her and put a kitchen knife in his throat.

Ah, that makes sense, thanks. Although that's a bit of a plot hole for me since Maeve is otherwise so brilliant in her scheming - the fact that she is pushing *****nuzzle Eddie doesn't jibe with that.
TresPuertas
How long do you want to ignore this user?
i have a feeling that Harry's loyalty is going to be tested.

by no means is this anything but a guess but

I could see Maeve trying to bury Harry for all that's happened and Conrad going along with it. This puts Harry in the horrible position of going to work with Ritchie. If you think about it, Harry's current employers are all giant pieces of garbage, save maybe Kevin, so I don't see this being a hard thing to see happening

He's an absolute idiot so I am sure she is using him to some other end, not to take over the family.

She wants a war so they can eradicate the Stevensons. The dbag kid is just a useful pawn to her for starting that war.
Sea Speed

I don't think it is as simple as wanting to get rid of them. I think there's another thing that we don't even know yet.
fig96
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Agreed, she's smarter than just "let's blow it all up" when she's got a pretty good thing going.

It all points to her right now which is a bit too simple, I feel like there's something else at play here that we don't know about yet.
DannyDuberstein
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think the story about her and the shotgun at 16 set her up character. Somewhat nuts and has to be in control. The fentanyl market is in play. And Harry is tight with Conrad and too much of a voice of reason, so she's angling to get him out too. I think she feels Conrad has gone a bit soft, but start a war, get Harry out, and the Harrigans go back to the top with her pulling the strings. She expects to win any war, so she doesn't see it as blowing anything up or a big risk. It's all opportunity. I think the Harry part is the "twist" in the story that is part of her scheme.
